Ive taken the TBA out for a few rides now and something is definitely wrong. I've checked the vent tube and its not pinched. When I got back from the last ride( just around the block) I noticed a black fluid dripping from the right exhaust just under the brake pedal. I'm guessing it's a carb thing any advice?

Need to identify the fluid. Gas or oil? Maybe brake fluid? Where's it coming from?
"Sluggish" is a bit vague. Can you explain in more detail?

It has to be fuel. Its coming from the exaust. Its dripping from the connection between the right exhaust and header. When I'm going down the road I can open her up and it sounds bogged down and takes forever to get up to speed.

Maybe, your just running on one jug....right side not firing. Go pull the plug wire off the spark plug on the left and try to start the bike. That would tell you.

Yeah, sounds like you may have a float sticking on the right side carb.

ID the fluid, stick your finger in it and smell it. Could be water too from condensation. When you start the bike does that header get hot? Check the float level, attach a piece of clear tube to the bowl drain and hold it up along side the carb. When you open the drain it should show gas to about the seam between the bowl and carb body.

I removed the left plug wire and the starter just clicked. Then I replace the left and unplugged the right and the starter just cliked. I then replaced the right plug so both plugs are attached and the starter just clicks. Now i'm really confused.

OK. I put the charger on the battery and she would not start with the left plug removed but would start with both wires connected.

You mean it won't start now? Ignition coils maybe, CDI probably. Or, the top end just went away from way too tight on shims.

You didn't just get done shimming it did you? No noise and tight shims will make it like it has no power til it dies.

Sounds electrical, not that Triumph has any CDI or coil problems ever

The starter just clicked makes it sound like a bad connection at the battery. Do you mean it spun the engine but wouldn't start? Does sound electrical to me too.

I'm thinking that the only reason the starter just clicked is b/c the battery was low. After It had time to charge it started right up when both plug wires were hooked up and also when just the left was connected. The only time it wont start is when just the right plug wire is connected.
How hard is it to clean these jugs that you guys are talking about?

ugh.... don't want to do that. You would have to tear the motor down, remove head, pull the entire top end....might as well do the big bore if you were going that far.

Probably need to put an OHM meter on the coil. Check the plug and wire. I think it is a spark issue but all of that and $1.00 will almost buy you a coffee.

Did you figure out if it was gas that was dripping from the right side? If so, you need to pull the right spark plug out and see if it's wet with gas. If it is, you have carb issues. You should also check the oil level to be sure the motor isn't full of gas!

Also take the plug that is firing and hook it to the other plug wire and ground that plug against the bike. Crank the engine and see if you get a spark. If you do it may be a simple matter of replacing the plugs and adjusting the carb/fixing the float if it is stuck.

I solved my problem. One of the ignition coil connections must have gotten knocked off when I took the tank off. I happened to see just by dumb luck. I hooked it back up and she is purrs like a kitten. I'm gonna go for a short ride just because I can. Thanks everybody I really appreciate all your help. This web site is a blessing!
