Where do they live? Just about anywhere Dwight.

How about Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Tx back in 1991 when some whack job drove his truck into the restaurant, got out, and killed 23 people before committing suicide.

Or how about the recent shooting spree that started in the small town of Samson, Alabama where some whack job killed 10 people.

I can rattle off more if you like, but the point is you don't even have to be in high crime areas like South Central to come up against some whack job that's bent on taking out as many people as he can. So you either hope he misses you when the time comes as you cower underneath a booth at the diner, or you carry a gun(LEGALLY) and try to put him down before he kills that baby in the high chair sitting in the next booth.

But back on topic...I'm looking for a 9mm compact or subcompact myself. I've got a Taurus PT945 and it's just too big to carry concealed, so I'm looking for something smaller, but I don't want anything that fires a bullet smaller than 9mm.

Today I went to a local gunshop and bought an 18" barrel for my 870 Remington 12 gauge. They had a 2 day sale on with some great prices and there was a line of 50 people waiting for them to open. I'm in the camp of 12 gauge 00 Buck for the first line of home defense. You don't have to be real accurate when things go bump in the night.

Well Derek, I guess that answers my question alright!

Though geeeeee...I can't help wonderin' WHY in Texas of all places, where folks have been packin' heat since ol' Sam Houston broke that territory away from Santa Anna's clutches...WHY at least ONE of those 23 folks wasn't packin' heat that fateful day in Killeen in order to stop that, MOST LIKELY UP 'TIL THEN law abidin', whack job???

(I'm guessin' that, seeing as how it seems MOST of these mass murderers after their little reign of terror is over are depicted by their neighbors as a "good, quiet, law-abiding gent")

'Cause geeeeee....I could ONLY ever see somethin' like THAT happening someplace like in say(as your neighbor down there in Tucson might derisively refer to as) "The People's Republik of Kalifornia", where "OF COURSE" "they've taken ALL our rights away" from us poor "sitting duck" saps here!!!

(and BTW..."Kill-een", kind'a ironic, ain't it???!!!)

Actually, one woman always carried her gun in her purse. That fateful day when she reached for it, she remembered she had left her purse in the car since her dad was treating her to a meal. She's beat herself up quite a bit about it.

It's crazy that everyday you see a multiple murder in the news. If these guys want to kill themselves why do they have to take other people with them?

BTW, Killen is where the largest military base-Fort Hood-in the western world is located. You'd think someone would have had something.

Well Dick, 5'll get cha TEN, because this woman was evidently so friggin' frightened, IF she would've remembered her little .380(or whatever little pop gun it was) in her purse and pulled it out, in all the commotion she probably would've hit one or two OTHER friggin' Innocents ANYWAY, no matter HOW MUCH training she had, OR how many times a month she went to target practice!!!

(and soooooo...I HOPE the woman in question here might've considered THAT, and maybe THAT would've eased her troubled little mind!!!)

Okay, I'm done here. Please continue on with "Gun Talk" now without any further adieu!

(BTW...I think I'll go clean my trusty ol' S&W .38 now...and maybe my Remington model-870, THE BEST home protection one can own...other than a dog, of course!)

She also beat Texas up quite a bit about it. Texas weapons carry laws at that time prohibited the law abiding Suzanna Hupp from having her pistol with her. As a result of the Lubys Massacre, Texas enacted 'shall issue' regulations that made it easier for qualified Texas residents to obtain concealed carry permits.

There are many instances of citizens who were lawfully carrying weapons that have saved numerous lives by using their weapons in situations similar to the case under discussion.

That woman is/was ended up being an elected official in Texas. As you can imagine, she's very much pro-gun and wasn't carrying that day because public perception was against it, so she left the weapon at home. Her mother was killed in that attack. Can't recall her name.

Don't forget - when seconds count, police help is only minutes away. But they'll write a great report.

I was discussing this with the owner of a large gun store

The operative words here are he was a gun dealer. He loves the panic! Panic sells well.

I can go to Academy right now and buy a gun over the counter with ammo the same way I did 10 years ago. There is not one law in the pipeline in DC that will have an adverse effect on my guns, my rights, or my ammo. When those laws come up they are fought one at a time.

None of these so called gun haters in DC invaded the capitol. They were sent there to replace those who failed to do their jobs. People get the leadership they deserve.

This thread could be a mile long with all the variations goods and bads. Remember one thing I always used to say in another life. Only the bad guy knows when the violence is about to begin. For the first few seconds you are helpless. A bullet travels how many feet a second?

The cool thing about the amendments is the order of them. The 2nd amendment was to take back the 1st should those in charge ever need to be quickly retired so to speak.

Brilliant people, put together a brilliant document. We should try to keep whats left of it intact.

I'm in the shotgun camp myself and I think you'd be surprised pattern testing that 00 against #9.

Neither here nor there. I only asked about the current and past trends and reasons given by customers for them, not whether he was personally jazzed about it. Although as with any business owner, I am sure he was happy with the increased business. As an aside, his prices on the items I tend to take note of were exactly the same as they were last July. Then again I have not purchased a new weapon for over 20 years and really only drop in to pick up ammo as needed. The only new gun I have contemplated (for about 5 years), the Ruger GP 100, was out of stock but its price had not been jacked up to capitalize on herd instincts of recent buyers.

I thought Tom had asked for suggestions on a handgun. When did this become a discussion on the shortage of ammo or the possibility of upcoming gun laws?

Sadly, here in the US, I haven't seen any online discussion NOT move into the changing vibe (ie: laws...) And that's on a variety of non-gun forums.
As far as ammo goes, if you have limited access to it, gun ownership becomes a moot point and you own a nifty paperweight.

(and of course...THAT'S usually when I step in around here and attempt soothe their fevered little brows!!! ...AND not BEFORE then, if you'd check back on this thread, dude!...yep, that's ME, always willing to help others in their time of "crisis"!!!)

It is absolutely due to Obamanation, those friggin Dems have total control right now and that is never good, it wouldn't be good the other way around for other issues either. There is supposed to be a balance of power and right now there isn't and they are shoving legislation down everyones throat like it or not. It seems to me it is just a matter of time until they start taking away rights like gun ownership. I own and carry and haven't shot anyone who wasn't asking for it.

Right on! Stuffing legislation down your throat...
All these failures
Patriot act
No child left behind act
Iraq - not to mention the over deployment and overuse of military forces
Iran Freedom and Support Act
Withdrawl from the Kyoto protocol
Eliminating the protection from mining of the Grand Canyon and other important areas
Katrina emergency management and relief fund
Record high gas prices
world financial collapse.

The list goes on an on...oops sorry that was the other guy.

It's these self aggrandising, media wh0res like Hannity, Beck - extra scary when he cries haha, Van Susteren and O'Reilly who are stirring the pot. Why cant they just get over it, they lost and the world is changing...lol Tea Bag
