Is there an aftermarket six speed tranny that will fit onto an 08, (or any other year), BA?
My dream may be your nightmare.

Ian surley your joking?compared to laying a new shaft int the gear box to accept the sixth gear i would have thought fiting a kick starter would have been a piece of cake,i'm sure we all know your option on that 1

I would love a kicker but that is almost impossible but 6spd guts are doable. It wouldn't be cheap though.
I wonder if the Tbird tranny guts would fit. I doubt it but it's a thought.

Forget trying to fit a six speed in that case. Just get a good Shimano derailer and add another rear sprocket.....

So if you sort through the $hit your answer is no. You can't find or put a 6-speed in these bikes. What you can do to help eliminate the want of a 6-spd is put a 19 tooth front sprocket on. It lowers the revs adequatly at higher speeds. http://www.newspeedmaster.com/html/18_tooth_sprocket.html

I wonder if you could lace a Sturmy Archer hub into the rear wheel? that would give you at least 15 speeds.

A while back there was a thread over on the rat.net about a guy putting the 6 speed guts out of a triple into a twin. I recall it involved a lot of wrench work, machine work and expense. Oh and some major clutch alterations as well (dont recall why) But it apparently is possible to do.
changing up the front sprocket would be a lot easier though.
