I just got my 6 month policy renewal from State Farm for my TBA. I have had no accidents on my bike or car for over 15 years, no speeding tickets. I feel like I am getting hosed. It is $268.34 for 6 months. I pay my premiums monthly so it is around $45 per month. This seems high even though Tulsa has high rates because there are so many accidents here. I'm sure some of you out there are getting better deals. Any comments or Insurance Co. recommendations?

Try elsewhere. Seems high to me. Just a personal suggestion though....

Insurance is vitally important to we riders. Having recently survived a catastrophic accident that was wholly the fault of the cager.....I have learned.

Make sure you get UIM (uninsured motorist, underinsured) I would go ahead and opt for at least 50,000.00 It will cost a bit more but if the son of a gun who hits you has only 15K in insurance and is basically an average Joe in terms of assets and property .....suing for more becomes difficult. At least at that point if the accident was his fault completely you will have that 50K due you from your policy.

I wish I had had 50K. The larger the potential award you can receive from the party at fault and from your UIM the better.

Attorney will take his cut ...its typically 1/3. Hospital may slap a lien on an award as well. Your attorney will try to get that dropped or negotiate it favorably.

An ERISA subrogation effort might occur from your personal health insurance through your employer. If that occurs they may well try to get some or even all of it depending upon the total medical bill and the specific circumstances.

Insurance seems at times expensive but if you find yourself
alive but hospitalized for three or four months the monthly stipend for a good policy is well worth it.

What Kevin said. Get the most, and best insurance you can afford. Most good insurance companies will give you an on-line quote. Try Progressive.

Insurance rates in NJ are some of the highest in the country. You guys are getting off easy! And there is no medical coverage in NJ on a bike policy.

Rates on bike insurance is based to some degree on CCs. You guys in the market for a new 1600 cc T'Bird will be in for some serious sticker shock when your insurance bill comes in.

Ride safe guys.

Try GEICO, they are pretty tuff to beat for MC Insurance. I think I pay $145.00 full coverage for a year. I was paying twice that when I had coverage thru USAA. When I asked them why they said that they prefer not to insure motorcycles, hence the higher rates. Give GEICO a try.

Heck now you have me wondering, mines $30 a month for full coverage with all the extra's, I have Progressive, and have all my cars with them, plus my kids cars are on mine, so they told me I have all the discounts they offer. Humm, think I am getting shafted here.

You do need to shop around. I've had three different insurance companies since I've had my Triumph. I'm now with Foremost through AARP. It is absoutely the best (most for money) of any I've ever run into. But, you'd have to be at least 50 to be a AARP member.

Mine is not cheap as I pay for a lot of liability and have stacked coverage on my uninsured motorist coverage. I personally believe the odds are I'd be hurt by someone else's fault and if they are uninsured or underinsured - you're screwed. I changed all my insurance after being rear ended (in my car) at a red light by someone with the absolute minimum of insurance.

I pay $115 a year through progressive, full coverage. I can only ride for 6-7 months out of the year though, don't know if that's a factor or not.

Insurance companies set prices for location of domicile, then on to the individual's profile & MVR, and also from what they find here http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs26-CLUE.htm#6 at the CLUE database. (See part 7) Every reported claim finds a home there, even a $0 claim my wife called in to the insurance company by mistake.

I could tell you what I pay in NW CT, but it would have little to no relevance to a Tulsa price.

I found too that the difference between buying the CT state minimum required insurance, ($20,000 / $40,000) and bumping up the coverage to the maximum allowed coverage ($100,000 / $300,000) prior to an additional umbrella policy was very cheap. I think maybe $75 or $100 a year for the extra coverage? $40K don't go too far these days - maybe the first 8 lawyer calls? ;-)

I hate surprises in policy limits after a claim. Found out the hard way on a pollution claim. A weasel boy on an excavator working for the neighbors popped a heating oil line on my commercial property. As no one was there to actually see him do it, he went weasel boy on me, the two insurance companies agreed, and it's all on me now.
weasels...

I have State Farm, full coverage and I'm paying $287 a year. There must be a big difference between states.

Yep. If the same bike were parked outdoors in Newark, NJ, the annual premium would likely be around $1500 or more per year. For real.

Insurance companies often like to talk half truths when they advertise prices. Those term life policies we hear about on TV where the guy pays $300 a year for a million in coverage -- that means he has never been sick a day in his life, and has absolutely no medical or doctor visit history. The rest of us in the real world get a price quite a bit different than that.

Thought for the day for young family folk -- buy life insurance young, before you get sick.
If you get sick, say with Diabetes or a brush with Cancer or the like, you are pretty much un-insurable.
Wife + kids + bills + no life insurance often =

Sorry for the OT Paul. Too much coffee.

Of course, it wouldn't be around for the full year. Depending on the Newark neighborhood it probably wouldn't last the week.

I have Allstate for my cars and home, but when I called my agent she said to go to Harley-Davidson because she couldn't compete with their rates. (she rides also) I'm 47, live in a rural area and am paying $275 per year for full-covereage with a $500 deductible for my '02 American and my '66 Bonneville. This includes towing and roadside assistance.

I've been with H-D Insurance Services for five years now. Initially they had me with Foremost, but switched me to Progressive for the antique bike insurance (Foremost didn't carry this).

I called Progressive directly and the rate was higher than going through H-D Insurance Services, by about $50 I believe.

Give them a call, the initial setup took about 15 minutes on the phone with my credit card for payment.

The nice thing about Progressive, is you can do everything online which Foremost did not offer.

Those certainly are good rates compared to ours. I pay about $600 with Riders plus.

Just tried it, nice rates:
Esurance: $114 for my 02 America
Progessive: $147
AND, the Progressive bill includes a "multi-vehicle" discount.

I'll be giving Esurance a call in August when my current plan expires.

Has anyone experienced a claim with Esurance? My daughter did with Progressive and they treated her very nicely (totaled bike and damaged helmet/jacket). I'd like to hear some first-hand comments before making the switch.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dairyland. I had three automobiles and my house through State Farm, but Dairyland still beat them by almost 50%. It only takes a couple minutes to call their toll-free number and get a quote.

I've had Foremost(via AARP) three years. The first year was $225 then it jumped to $286 and now fell back to $218. Foremost beat Geico and Progressive by a mile. I've tried combining car, house, and motorcycle insurance and have never made a better deal than by purchasing policies individually.
No claims, no tickets-prices seem arbitrary.

Two prefires. Full coverage sans Medical. My health insurance is for that even though many insurance companies won't. A big AMA issue that is.

2007 $167.67
2008 $159.58

Foremost yearly premiums.
