I know this has been covered before but I couldn't find it so I'll ask the question again...

I'm taking apart my forks, the bolt on the bottom that connects to the dampening rod, whats the best way to get that off?

I know someone said they used a wooden broom handle and pushed down hard. Has anyone tried anything different with success, I'd really like to know.

I just had to do this again...I left the forks assembled this time and loosened that bolt first. Once I felt it get loose I did my dissasembly with no issues.

I used an impact wrench to spin it loose with a little pressure inside from a 1" wood dowel tapered at one end. Installation is the reverse process. Also, with the impact wrench it's hard to hold on to the dowel, so I clamped some ViceGrips on the dowel for leverage.

Also, the allen wrench part of my allen socket wasn't long enough. So I bought a cheapie $2 allen wrench and hacked off the short leg and put that in the socket body. Plenty long enough now.
