It's handy for locating restaurants, etc. But, I haven't realized the $300 value yet.
I can see that but still not for the price, I ether know where I want to eat in the general area or try a new place we just find, we enjoy that. We were out late one evening and I asked a guy where a good place to eat was and he pulled his Garmnin like thing out and found one. We got lost trying to get there but it was fun. We ended up at the same place to eat but got there by a different route.
The value is wanting to have it not needing it. I don't ride with mine 90% of the time but it's cool to have none the less. What is the value of having a bike when you can drive a much more convenient car with air conditioning, heat, and a nice stereo.

but maps don't tell you where you are if you get lost.
This is one of the biggest benefits to a GPS! Maps are nice too especially if you can get local maps with detail.
Now...As stated before GPS isnt for everyone. I travel a lot for work and when in an unfamilar area teh GPS is a godsend!
On the bike...its good too. I agree...getting lost is a lot of fun. Heck...I can do it even when I have the GPS fired up Having that handy dandy little GPS is nice when you get lost somewhere but still need to get to the right spot. Im also not the type to get lost, shrug my shoulders and set up camp.
Im a fan of them for both the car and the bike.

Ritz camera has filed for bankruptcy and I am reluctant to place an order for something that hasn't been delivered with a company that may or may not be there. However I think I found a company on the west coast that has a good reputation and a good price. It is a lot of money but when I drive alone in a strange city, I like the GPS in rental cars and I think I will like the 660 if it ever ships for the same reason.

Anyone else's Garmin Nuvi fail this week due to the software error? Update: Fixed it myself. Screw you Cyberdyne, er Garmin!
Garmins solution was for you to send back the unit and get a refurbished one. That would take at least a week, once you actually reach someone at Garmin (2 hour wait this evening, before they closed..). On a GPS forum, I learned to pull the back off. Unplug the battery to reboot, put it back together than do their Web Updater program. I installed the new firmware and she is good to go. I imagine Garmin is going to have very many unhappy customers right at the start of summer vacation travel. Most won't be savvy enough to fix it themselves and be at Garmin's mercy. Good business plan....

I received a Nuvi 550 for Christmas and use it for both truck and bikes. I couldn't be happier with the price and function of this unit.
