I know there has been others posts about what bike would you have...but I was thinking today I'd like to get another Triumph. But frankly, I seriously don't think I could figure out which one..the new Daytona 675 is awesome, then the ST was my first choice before I bought my current America. And the Blacked engine Classic Rocket...how could you not want one (other than it's kinda ugly). I think if I had to make a choice it would be the Tiger...since it goes off road and it would be fun to take some shortcuts in the highway traffic jams on the way home from work each day.
And then I saw the new BMW K1200S. I'll make that my 3rd bike.
oh well.

2nd bike in the garage is a 1972 Yamaha 350 R5C. If there were a 3rd maybe a vintage motocrosser, a 4th would be a classic trials machine.

Ya know at first I thought "Oh no not this again" But then I realized that each year they come out with new bikes, so this kind of question is valid again!
As for me, still hard pressed to find anything to replace a Speed Tripple as my second, especially since they came out with the new one!! Sweet machine.

Yep. I guess my thought at the moment was Triumph makes some extremely nice bikes (big surprise hey?), in all categories. I was chuggling because I kept moving from one bike to another, first the Tiger, then new 675, then can't forget about the rocket, etc., etc. Besides, I just blasted it out and said this evening "I am buying another bike" just to get a reaction and test the waters. Predictable wife statement was "kids are in college, no you are not".

Golf is to much of a reason to get away from work so don't see given that one up. Another topic but it does bug me that when I want to golf that forces me to ride my truck to work. Someone should make a trailerable bike golf bag like a big uniwheel. The normal trailers are to massive.

Dwight,
With a sissy bar (who's a sissy?) and backrest on a Corbin seat I was able to easily bungee cord a golf bag onto my ba using those attachment points by laying it on top of the right side saddlebag. A post round bike ride salvages an otherwise so-so day on the links.
Other bikes? Who knows, I'm more than pleased with this one.

Adey, I'm with you -- I'd love an Enfield. Barring that (or if i wanted something a little more reliable)...
Triumph Bonneville Black (standard)
or
Honda GB 500 (http://www.algonet.se/~anils/Pictures/Honda_GB_500/honda_gb_500.html)
http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/honda_gb_500_clubman_1992.php
Something lighter, more upright, good for REALLY twisty backroads, but with lots of torque.

I need to stop looking at pics of crotch rockets riding twisties (like the dragon). I soooo want a Daytona, Sprint, or Speed Triple (maybe even a low-mileage TT600). I don't need the extra expenditure (gas, insurance, etc) and then I'd have to choose which one to ride that day or weekend. I'd never trade my Speedmaster but there are times when I want to learn to drag my knees and be a Power Ranger for a day.

The new Daytona and Speed Triple are getting great reviews from most critics I have read. Nice to see, but I am still either a T100 or Rocket Classic kinda guy. That torquey Rocket just speaks to me regardless of the looks. The T100 will always be a favorite of mine. I have tried countless times to get the wife excited about a T100, but she will not ride! Oh well, perhaps when the little girl turns 3 in two weeks, she will want a bike. Ride Safe! Ryan

Well unfortunately I have to be practical about my next bike. No crotch rockets, retro Ducatis(the Paul Smart LE is schweet!) or Norton girls. It has to be comfortable for 2up touring, and hard bags would be nice according to my wife. I've already laid down the law that it won't be a Gold Wing or a Harley Ultra. I'm just not into 800lb Gorillas...err...bikes. So here's what I'm looking at to buy in about a year and half when the monthly budget around here can handle it. Alright, I know what you're thinking...that bike has a face only a mother could love. But I already have a good looking bike, one that draws attention. The V-Strom is strictly for touring or 1up jaunts down some dirt roads. And it has that torquey 1000cc L twin engine. No more dogged downshifts up steep mountain grades with the wife on the back. This will pull stumps up a hill, and cruise at 90 all day long with it's overdrive 6th gear. Weighs about the same as our bikes too. Sucks being practical!

Not sure what the deal is with Norton. Their page used to have an empty dealership link, that's gone now. FAQ section said dealerships would be announced in Fall 2004 and production would commence in Spring 2005. Neither has happened. Sure hope Kenny Dreer's dream did not go bust before launch. I sent him an email, curious if they'll respond. MSRP for a production model is estimated at $14,9. A bit pricey for me, unless those 6 numbers come in of course. Maybe shouldn't have sold my old one: Regards,

Picked up the second bike last Wednesday. 1998 Ducati 900 SS, yellow, with quarter-fairing. "Only" 80 HP on the two-cylinder two-valves-per-cylinder engine but it moves! Have wanted a yellow Ducati for decades and got this one with low miles. Now I need the Power Ranger suit for sure!

I want a Thruxton. I just love that retro look. Something to cook around on. Probably not for long rides with my big belly and bad knees. They are so freaking cool looking!

ddodge,
I love the design of the SS. I have ridden it and it's 80HP (I thought it was 85) do not hamper it in the twisties, in fact it let's you rev it up quite nicely without intimidating you . Another air-cooled gem, in my book. Sir, you have style! It was designed by Pierre Terblanche - a South African who also designed the 999 - following the departure of Massimo Tamburini of Bimota, Ducati 916-998 and nowadays MV Agusta fame. I went the other way (but stayed Italian) and have an Aprilia Mille 1000cc in my stable (along with a BMW R1100RT for long distance 2-up touring).

Adey,
As I mentioned to Derek a while ago, the V-Strom 1000 and the KLV 1000 is essentialy the same bike (rebadge effort). It was built in co-operation by both companies and has the Suzuki TL-S derived (read fantastic) engine. That's probably why they have the same price.

Yeah, the Kawsaki KLV1000 is just a re-badged Suzuki V-Strom. It isn't available over here, just like Honda doesn't offer the Varadero in the states.
Funny you should bring up the Tiger. The other day my wife and I stopped by the dealer to order some longer bolts for my Bonneville sprocket cover, and of course you have to wander past the new bikes on the floor to get to the parts counter. So on the way to the back I was showing her some of the new bikes and she really liked the Tiger. My only problem with the Tiger is the lack of dealer network. Since my next bike is going to be more suited for 2up touring, I want a bike that has dealers wherever I go. Or maybe if I had a Triumph dealer close to home that had a good service department, I might bite, but the one near me is bunch of dangerous wankers, and the next closest one I trust is 120 miles away.
Btw, the Tiger isn't just a little more than the Suzuki. I should be able to get a V-Strom for around $8,000. Even though the Tiger does come with the hard bags, it's going to be $10,000-$11,000 around here.

Rude ain't got nuttin' to do with it. Those incompetent wrenches could have got me killed when they failed to put the right front caliper bolts on more than 3 threads in. When they fell out 3 miles down the road on one of the busiest streets in Tucson during rush hour, it was all I could do to get the bike safely off the road when I pulled in the front brake lever and it bottomed out against the grip and the bike didn't slow down much less stop. Nope, calling them wankers is giving those (*&$*^%#*& less than they deserve.

OK, other than a 1500 America with the R3 derived engine, here is what I would be looking for.
1. It has to have a name I can recognize.
2. It has to have a name I can pronounce.
3. It has to have a kickstart.
4. It has to be something I wouldn't mind being seen on.
5. I have to be able to tell at first glance which end is which.
6. The seat has to be low enough that I don't have to climb up onto it.

Ya, but you should never take away a person's hopes or dreams. I'd go for a kickstart, but it'll never come off a factory line. I sold a 95 chev pickup w/5 spd manual, and bought a used 2000 gmc w/automatic transmission. First auto I've owned. Every time I drive I feel like I caved in, conceeded, gave up.
Other bikes? In reality I'll always be a 1 bike person & it's in the garage. I need to ride a Tiger however, just to see what they're like. The R3 reminded me of life if they legalized drugs. I have only owned or ridden Triumph Bonnevilles and it's too late now to tarnish a perfect driving record. Narrow minded perhaps, but I'm happy.

Thanks for the compliment Bedouin,
But I don't know if it's so much purist or simply a bad case of "stuck in my ways". I think there's lots of serviceable scooters out there. I just never had the personal motivation to purchase one. I admit to general ignorance, but I hate it when I have to search for the sticker or emblem to tell just what it is I'm looking at.

Hey Freedom, I'm driving an automatic now too and ONLY because it's a company car and I don't have a choice. Funny thing, lately I've noticed my left knee (the leg I broke in HS) has hurt more, and seems weaker.... no clutch!! I miss my clutch. I wish my girlfriend would learn to drive stick so she could buy that Mini Cooper she wants. I refuse to let her get one with an automatic tho, would tarnish it... Some day, when the company car goes, the stick shift will return.

Maybe, maybe not. I know of a shop in North Hollywood that usually has 5 or 6 parked outside for sale. Last time I was by there, 2 even had proper magneto ignition.

I read a review on the Kawasaki when it came out and the guy said it was OK, but he prefered riding the Susuki!!
Couldn't work that one out as they're the same bike

I'm going to pick up a Moto Guzzi California EV Touring, or perhaps their new Breva V1100 sport touring model. The shaft drive twin appeals to me. If I were a few years younger I might be convinced that a Daytona 675, or the new Speed Tripple is the way to go.
