Hey all, Everyone knows this new board format is having its birthing pains Just wanted to tell you that every effort is being expended to search for solutions to the problems. Sometimes, 'other things' get in the way but be assured, the problems are being worked on. You all are in the top ten of some of our lives... ... and that's a good thing

Phil, I haven't had problem one with the new UBB boards. Then again, I've only tried 2 bells and 1 whistle so far. But it's good to know someone cares...

Slacker, get on with it eeh? I don't have any problems though, I like the UBB style. Is there anyway to use both HTML and UBB though? I might give that a try and see what happens. Hope it doesn't meltdown.

Phil, Administrator’s Guide Quote:
Allowing HTML on boards that are open to the public is a security risk as well. This could allow users to insert javascript that can be used to capture username/password pairs. It is best to allow only markup, unless you board is used by a private or trusted group.

Phil: Robert did contact me about my email notification problem. He's out of town for a few days and said he'd fix it on his return.

Could someone tell me what HTML and UBB mean. Is this why this board is so different than the original? Thanks, leonard

They are terms associated with the specific computer coding techniques used. (Computer Geek stuff)
HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language
Used for web pages. Right click on any web page and then left click on "View Page Source" and you can see the actual HTML code for the page. Hyper text meaning that if you click on it something will happen, usually redirection to another page.
UBB - Ultimate Bulletin Board
Used in most newer bulletin board software. This allows users to stylize their postings without jepordaizing the security of the board. Mostly used for formatting the look of the text and attaching active links and images in your post.

The original was written from scratch by our illustrious (infamous?) leader, Robert. He may or may not have expected this site to take off like it did. I can't get inside his head and see the programming decisions he made but I suspect that the original board wasn't really set up for heavy traffic. There are several forum software packages out there in the "intarweb" that are widely in use. UBB is one of them. PHPBB and Invision Power Board are others. They were written from the ground up to handle heavy traffic and provide a lot more features than Robert's original system. That's not to discount what Robert did at all. His system served a specific purpose and did it well, but was quickly overwhelmed by the success of this site. I've been online for about a decade and I've come to appreciate, and in some regards expect, the level of features that UBB provides for an online community. But for some it obviously will take some getting used to.
Anyway, that's my two cents on the subject.

It seems pretty similar to the Rat.net forums. They don't even have the email notification. I'm also a casual observer to this Chevy truck forum, it's set up great and easy to use: Chevy Truckworld Forums

TriumphRAT.net appears to be using a heavily customized version of PHPBB, which is made to work with Post-Nuke, the content management system they're using. I'm using the same combo for one of my clients, STRIMA.org, and on our local intranet at the office.

thanks guys, I still don"t understand all that, but I guess I don't really need to know how or why, as long as I can just point and click. I just need to get used to this new format. You guys that work with these things are amazing. leonard

Vagaries of UBB threads
Hi Phil,
This will eventually work out great for me. I've been a vagitarian since I was 14. About the same time I started riding on the street. Is this something we should talk about here?
