My mom , a teacher, sent me this and it is along the same vein. I didn't go to snopes so if you guys want to, have at it.
LETTER BY A FLORIDA TEACHER -- PLEASE READ
When will the American People get fed up and do something, or is it too late...
This is a subject close to my heart. Do you know that we have adult students at the school where I teach who are not US citizens and who get the PELL Grant, which is a federal grant (no pay back required) plus other federal grants to go to school?
One student from the Dominican Republic told me that she didn't want me to find a job for her after she finished my program, because she was getting housing from our housing department and she was getting a PELL Grant which paid for her total tuition and books, plus money.
She was looking into WAIT which gives students a CREDIT CARD for gas to come to school, and into CARIBE which is a special program (check it out - I did) for immigrants and it pays for child care and all sorts of needs while they go to school or training. The one student I just mentioned told me she was not going to be a US Citizen because she plans to return to the Dominican Republic someday and that she 'loves HER country.'
I asked her if she felt guilty taking what the US is giving her and then not even bothering to become a citizen and she told me that it doesn't bother her, because that is what the money is there for!
I asked the CARIBE administration about their program and if you ARE a US citizen, you don't qualify for their program.. And all the while, I am working a full day, my son-in-law works more than 60 hours a week, and everyone in my family works and pays for our education.
Something is wrong here. I am sorry but after hearing that they want to sing the National Anthem in Spanish - enough is enough. That's a real slap in the face. Nowhere did they sing it in Italian, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German or any other language because of immigration.. It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for word the way it was written. The news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close. I don't care whether this offends someone or not but this is MY COUNTRY. IF IT IS YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP -- please pass this along. I am not against immigration -- I just expect immigrants to come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the past -- and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
It is Time for America to speak up.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains. Eat right ,Exercise ,Stay fit, Die Anyway!

HEY!! Might this be the very same Larry Lebowitz here who recently tried to get Congress to change the lyrics to the "Star-Spangled Banner" to: "Jose, can you see, our law's loopholes right here? If you can't, then we'll help you to take some Yank's jobs away Who's now out on the street looking for a new job which we HOPE he won't find 'cause that defeats our whole purpose." __________________________________________ Sooooo...DO ya suppose that it COULD BE that "very same guy" here, folks??? (aren't I freakin' CLEVER???!!! ...BUT, ya know folks, MAYBE IF people would start POINTEDLY LAUGHING AT these kinds of [ahem]"Americans", then MAYBE EVENTUALLY these kinds of [ahem]"Americans" MIGHT get the friggin' idea that crap like this ISN'T acceptable IF you wish to call yourself a "Proud American" later on!!!....RIGHT???!!!)

Think about those folks though. They are having a meeting for business leaders who want to hire the cheaper labor. Without a willing business the scam doesn't work.

On a side note, and i'm not disputing what they say, Snopes is actually a team of two people . I found that in itself pretty interesting.

It takes three things for that, or any program to preferentially hire non-citizens over citizens:
A government that passively condones and looks the other way. (Note that the citizenship requirement for employment in the economic stimulus package was stricken down?)
An unscrupulous business looking to cut overhead.
Complacent citizens who are not willing to voice opposition to the practices of BOTH government and business in this and like matters that harm the economic well being of citizens.

Yep! Leno ol' boy, I gotta say that while you may have been "wrong" in some of your assessments in ANOTHER recent thread regarding "the need" for those who can often legitimately be described as examples of "a motorcycle riding Man-Child bonding with their kindred in common purpose" (for the uninitiated here see: "Biker Brawl in Sydney" thread in this same website)...I AM 100% with ya on THIS issue ALRIGHT, ol' buddy!!!
(okay...so maybe REALLY only 98.7% with ya here...I DO like good Mexican food now and then TOO, ya know!!!)

The frenzy over illegals is the same old tired story, different ethnic groups. The Italians and Irish faced the same thing when they came over, as did most other groups. Don't even tell me all our ancestors had the right paperwork. Resentment over illegals ain't nothin' but prejudice, plain & simple. The jobs they're "stealing" are the jobs the white people won't do anyway. I'm thinking of the irony of a particular quote from Blazing Saddles, with regard to Blacks, Chinese, and Irish, but I can't post it here. The Bucky prayer, volume VVXXIIZ-B.6: Live & let live take care of our own s---- don't worry about what the neighbors are doing amen

Balder. Also, dash.
The word 'illegal' carries no ethnic significance whatsoever. To claim a similarity between checking in at Ellis Island and surreptitiously crossing the border is simply disingenuous. No mention of Hispanics, Mexicans, or Latinos has been made in this thread. (The Snoped chain email does not really count) In fact the OP illustrated how companies are using the law to obtain green cards (legal method for non-citizens working in the US) so that people can be hired from India (among other countries) and preventing citizens from successfully applying for the very same employment. Explain to me how that is not discrimination.
If you spot an argument here making the case that an ethnic group is to blame for ___________ (insert economic malady here) I will join with you in condemning it. However this argument centers on legal but unethical hiring practices.

Oh BOY! This ought'a be "fun" now!!!
Sorry Bucky, I disagree a bit. Many jobs today that were the "domain" of children and teenagers of ALL races during my formlative years as summer jobs and such, not to mention some fairly decent paying jobs which supported entire families, often thanks in part to that "bad ol' boggeyman of the Free Market", otherwise known as "Organized Labor"(don't worry, I'll let the "Total Free Marketeers" around here tackle THAT ONE, which I KNOW is comin' 'cuz I hear their battle cry in the distance RIGHT NOW after that last sentence o' mine here...well ANYWAY....) which often were the first groups in American history to SUPPORT the so-called "Workin' Man" regardless of his RACE, are NOW being outsourced to distant lands AND/OR farmed out to QUASI-LEGAL immigrants with the help of these very companies such as Leno here has brought to our notice with this link.

We Are All Immigrants Here Who got to decide when & where to draw the line? The folks who happened to fall out the womb on US soil? Pfft! Pretty weak a-- way to get citizenship, not to mention self righteous indignation over what amounts to where our Mommas happened to be at the time we popped. "This MY country, and you can't have any!" "Nah nah nah boo boo" that line of thinking is at best: Stingy, hateful, ignorant, and prejudiced. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Jack White of The White Stripes says it best in "Icky Thump".... Americans got nothin' better to do, why don't you kick yourself out, you're an immigrant too.

The question is not one of national origin, it is one of legality. All Americans are either immigrants or descended from immigrants. (I can argue this point back to the Bering land bridge in the case of Native Americans) In Dallas there are immigrants with green cards complaining about losing THIER jobs to people who are here and working illegally. Da*mn racists!

I think it's danm hilarious that most Americans will gladly send a million jobs to China, but they'll shoot the first undocumented Mexican who crosses the border to cut their grass.

I have no beef with legal imigrants at all. My beef is with illegals and the fact that they don't want to and are not made to learn the G D language! It used to be required to learn English to be a citizen. Now some clown will read and translate so someone can pass. That is just wrong. Those clowns that flew the Mexican flag over the American flag should have all been deported that day no questions asked and if any were US citizens they should have had their citizenship revoked on the spot and deported too.

If it's one of our own ancestors who jumped ship off the US coast 100 years ago, it's a romantic tale of adventure!
Don't even tell me all our ancestors were papered up right.
As far as jobs going off shore, we can blame our own legislators for that, by their creating an environment of hostility toward business through an avalanche of grab a-- rules & regulations. Case in point - the famous Labor Law posters, and the mythical 5 figure fines for not having them. Another case in point - the I 9 form - basically a worthless document intended to prove citizenship via signature to the validity of supporting forms of ID. Failure to have one per employee = large fine. I could go on like that for a day or three. These are the same folk who brought us the sub prime mortgage fiasco.
Call me a bleeding heart or Pollyanna if you want. I don't care. I'm getting too old to want to hate & exclude. We used to think this was a pretty good idea.
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
```````````````````````````````````````````
Nailed to the Stature of Liberty
In my little fantasy world, I'd like to believe that one of the key factors that makes America so great is the diversity of population, and all that is brought to the talent and ability table (if you will) as a result.
My own story -- Two brothers came here in the early 1600s as indentured servants to Lord Baltimore, back when New Haven was pretty much a farm. That makes me a citizen by virtue of womb geography. Big deal. I had nothing to do about it.
Wow! I love when the Yankees pontificate about illegals. Those Canadians flooding across your border filling up your hospitals, child protective services, and jails must be a real drain. California, last I read, spends 300M per year just on illegals. And that does not account for the cost of law enforcement. Ever hear of MS-13? Its not just something on Discovery Channel. We can no longer have open borders. We are no longer a rich, ever expanding nation with labor needs. It will bankrupt us if it goes unchecked. A very wise man, Roy Beck, said "The trick is not to help them here but to help them there." Everybody in the U.S. should really see this video at least once in their life.
Somehow I suspect things will eventually go the other way i.e. more open borders on both sides.
Maybe we should just adopt the same immigration laws and policies as Mexico.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
