I never said they had the same finish applied to the surface I said they look like the same style. Keep trying to wiggle out. Same curved dual spoke design.

Although I would rather it have been more America like, they will sell a lot of Thunderbirds. It will fit some larger people better than our bike and bring some new people to the brand-now that's a good thing. Personally I would rather have a 904 kit in my America. It's gonnna take some real creative thinking to come up with a reason for my wife while I need to spend that much on the bike...but I'm thinking.

Some people might not like the looks of the new Thunderbird, but the one I sat on was very comfortable (more so than my America when it was stock). Having a shorter wheel base means the Thunderbird will handle better, plus the extra power will make running the mountain roads more fun.
I love my America, but my Tiger with its much shorter wheel base, higher center of gravity, and much higher power/torque will run circles around my America. Plus I hate to admit it, but the Tiger is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden in my life. You don't sit on a Tiger you become part of it.
With all that said, most people hate the look of the Tiger. So don't judge the Thunderbird to hard until you ride it.

Are you sure? From every photo I've seen, it appears to be proportioned for shorter riders.

True. The T-bird actually felt a wee bit smaller in size than the TBA when sitting on it. The forward controls are a bit closer to the seat, but I'm sure the 1600 would never feel underpowered when transporting "full growns" like myself...

Ah HA!!! So THAT'S it, huh?! You "visit" China "fairly regularly", do ya Jackson ol' boy???
I THINK I'm startin' to see why you're always so negative about this here new T-Bird!!!
So...FESS UP, Jackson!!! You're REALLY some sort'a "Manchurian Candidate" who's infilrated our little nest here, and you travel there "regularly" to receive your latest orders from some Harley-Davidson agent who Willie G. sent there covertly, HUH???!!!

Sold the Speedmaster a couple years back to buy a Harley Springer (got slammed pretty hard for it here too.) That Thunderbird is a fine looking machine that I'll consider trading back to.
Bob, just to get a perspective, how tall are you?
Thanks for the pics,

I'm right there with you Dwight... I really like the T-Bird. Theres just some Ian's out there that as soon as the name is mentioned their panties get twisted. I can't even count the number of items Ian doesn't like on the T-bird. I think we've hit everything twice by now.

I am excited. While I do not like the big radiator, I understand the need for it. To bad they could not have made the radiator smaller and ran the coolant through the frame like the Honda Magna V65 did. I am ready to buy a 2011 Thunderbird. I will wait of a track record, before I buy. The first year always seems to have an issues or two.

I have to admit the displacement really interests me. Like the three lil bears, the Rocket is too big for my personal tastes. The 790 feels just right, but a 1600 sounds like it's worth a good test ride at some point. As far as radiators, this 'n that, 'n the other things, it is what it is. Bob & AmyLee look pretty comfortable on that thang. Granted the last 30 years, my endorsement has only been valid for <800cc Unfortunately, and I might be wrong, I believe our local dealer won't be receiving a demo model. The answer to that question might be worth a spin to Miss-Zoola Saturday. Sunny and 50dF, you listening Friar?? jh

John, hopefully my bike will cease being a unicycle by Sunday but I doubt it's maiden voyage for the year will be a trek to Missoula. And for the sake of comparison on the Thunderbird, AmyLee and Bob are roughly the size of Keebler Elves compared to you...

Hey now, hold on there Tonto! I may be short, 5'3" to be exact and I do look good in green, but I'm not that short. As you can tell, my feet are not flat on the ground. The bike is a bit wide for me, at a stand still that is, but once it's moving it should be a right nice ride. The handlebars are pulled back a bit more than the America's are (I needed risers on my Bonne to help with the reach). Just a couple of modifications and anyone should be able to ride it comfortably.

Well Freedom is about 20' tall so you still would look like a Keebler Elf standing next to him.

Well, don't be getting me caught up in your little squabble here, as I fashion myself the voice of reason.
And I'm not 20' tall, much closer to 4.1 Greek Cubits. Although since most clothes are no longer sold on the "cubit" system, sizing can be a challenge.
And the Thunderbird does interest me, though the Cardinal Red BA remains hard to beat

Got to sit on the new Tbird today while at the Triumph factor trailer demo day in Mountain View, Ca. They had a black one which was as said by a factory guy to be a totally stock bike. Sorry my picture was too many Kb's to fit. Looks like I'm just about two months away from delivery of my bike. Have to say that what I sat on had an extremely comfortable seat, was well balanced (no fuel in the tank) and looked 100% more beautiful than any pictures I have seen to date. Unless the bike is a total dud when I test ride it, there is no question that I will be taking it home. I told the Factory guy I did not like the tank badge and he said there will be optional badges for the Tbird. He said he had seen one that said Thunderbird. What an outstanding looking bike and definitely a Triumph through and through. Gary

Gary, good to see you getting an up close and hands on look at your next bike. Amy and I had fun checking the T-Bird out also, but no commitments from our end as of yet, I'll want to test ride one before I commit. We were busy today with our 6th annual Sons of Thunder Bike Blessing here in Merced, with bike run and bar-b-que. We had a great showing with around 200 bikers. Happy Retirement. Bob and AmyLee
