Well I went to see Metallica last night. Great gig, good stage show and lots of new stuff.

It amazes me that people can actually enjoy a gig from behind a mobile phone or camera. At one point all you could see was a sea of backlights.

To add to it the guy behind whinged all the way "ooo this is too loud" "ooo I don't like this one".

The response was great from one of his mates "well f off and go and buy some beers then".

Thanks to the geeks there heres a clip

They just sent out the late-'09 North America tour schedule and they aren't coming anywhere near here. Not even Spokane or The Gorge. Dang it.

Thats a big old shame FJ because I'd say they are definetly on top form at the moment and have put together a great stage show.

Not only were Metallica on form but Machinehead supporting them were pretty awesome last night as well.

I can't go to shows anymore. I just want to fight everyone. I saw Citzen Cope last year in NYC and this highschooltool texed his girlfriend all night long. She was sitting next to him. I saw John Prine a few years back and the kids who thought they were hip by going to check out the "old" guy shouted out requests all night long. He responded with a great line, "yeah I know all those songs."

You may want to contact your lawyer if you posted that video. I sure Lars is sure to sue you.

Just to give young people a break. A few years ago, I sat at an outside, 4th of July concert. Choreographed music by the local symphany. As soon as the music started, on old woman, directly behind my left ear, began telling her story of all her medical problems in the last year, non stop, to her friend. I heard everything about ulcers, gout, etc... everything except the fine job the symphony was doing. I turned and glared at her a few times to no avail. Just goes to show, the youth of today are not the only ones without any courtesy at a concert!

I took the wife & kids to "Stomp"* during one of our rare all of us were together times. 6 or 8 seats over and in front of us a young couple would not stop fiddling with their cell phones -- texting I guess. A little old lady behind them cranked on 'em pretty hard, and the phones disappeared. You go girl!

*A little OT
The show was so good the line of cars leaving the parking garage were playing percussion with their car horns. Great show. Whipped us all into a drum crazed frenzy.

Stomp is really cool, never got to see it in person but have seen plenty on video and on TV. Not sure it would be as good in person since they don't have alleys with dumpsters and such to use.

John Prine appeared in Missoula a year or two back? 90% of the crowd had white hair, no hair, pony tail hair or grey hair. A sprinkling had blue or spikey hair. It was a very, very good performance.

I prefer "geezers-on-tour" venues, because after the first break, a majority of the audience is feeling kinda' nappy, thinking about the 10 O'Clock news and it's like having a private concert.

Bet the gig was great! We tried to get tickets a while back but they'd already sold at the venues near us
Been listening quite a bit to Machine Head recently, also Trivium and Slipknot. Love the bands but what is it about those 'cookie monster' vocals?... Must be gettin old...

"Must be gettin old..."

Nooooo wayyyy man!

What you have to remember is Metallica have been doing this since the early 80's and the folks who went to see them then would probably give their right arm to go and see them now.

ACDC sell out stadiums, Led Zepplin sell out the O2 arena in seconds, Iron Maiden win the best live act at the Brits. There is even a film about a little known Canadian band called Anvil doing the rounds at the moment.

It's not teenagers doing this it's their dads and grandads.

From the moment you enjoy listening to metal, then most other music just sounds rather plain and boring.

The day that you don't reach for your air guitar when you hear the intro to "smoke on the water" is the day you "Must be gettin old..."

I dread the day when the nursing home I get interred in stop me playing "harvester of sorrow" or "seek and destroy".

Mind you I have to make sure that the wife is out if I want to crank up the stereo to "11".

Cookie Monster vocals = Opeth.
Only band with that style vox I can get into but only because the singer is an awesome guitarist with a beautiful "clean" voice as well.Saw them last year and was real impressed.Mind you I felt about 30years older than most people there.
Something about calling a music genre Progressive Death Metal that makes me squirm!

I saw Shane McGowan and the Pogues last week.
They sounded great... Shane looked like something straight out of a Sam Raimi movie.

Know what you mean ...
Personally think the death metal bands I've heard are great tho, if only for a few minutes at a time!
Got to take your hat off to some the vocalists mind, they make Lemmy sound like Frankie Valli! (No disrespect to Lemmy )
