I noticed the on the last couple of rides that my clutch seems to be slipping more than normal. 45000+ miles now. Im wondering. Whats the best way to go? The heavy duty kevlar clutch kit from barnet looks good. Iwant somthin tough because she gets beaten on a regular basis. Is there anything out there better?

If you haven't let it go too long, you can replace the springs with Barnett ones and be in good shape. No special tools needed. Mine started slipping at about 10 or 12K, changed the springs, works great. 31k on it now.

When you say it is slipping more than normal it leads me to believe that you have been letting it slip causing wear. You should pull the discs and check thickness before you do anything unless you just want to have the parts on hand in case you do need them. If they are OK thickness look for burning or hard spots or even cracks on the metal plates from heat. If you don't find any you could rough up the metal discs a little and re-assemble with stiffer springs.

I probably wouldnt take it apart without having plates and springs there. Is the barnet kit as good as or better than stock replacement plates. Are there better heavy springs available. Also where can I buy the tool? What is the tool?

Yep, see what Moe said above. OEM plates but Barnett springs. I can't see you making enough power to really need the heavy duty plates with a stock motor unless maybe if you went turbo or something along those lines. I think even if you went with the 904 the OEM plates would be fine with the right springs.

OK if you only slipped it a couple times it is much more likely you may be able to save what you have. Rough the metal plates just enough to break the glaze if any is present. At 45,000 miles you may need new plates depending on how much you slip your clutch when starting or some guys sit at stop lights and slip it rather than hold the break. (bad idea) If your cable was out of adjustment and the clutch was grabbing when disengaged would also cause wear. So as you see there are many factors that could play into the question. Oil could be another variable. Only way to know for sure if just roughing the metal plates and heavier springs would do the trick is to disassemble and check everything for wear. Any of us could say sure you will be fine or no way with that kind of mileage you need plates and either one could be correct depending on the above.
