check this link out emachinechop Looks like it might be a real good way to get one-off parts done if you don't have a machine shop handy. I haven't gotten a quote on anything yet... but I will think of something good!

That's pretty cool. I have a friend who owns a machine shop, but he doesn't like to do auto/bike stuff because of liability concerns.

Good point... I checked out the site more, and they definitly had a motorcycle part that looked something like a tripple tree. It said motorcycle!! So I think it's good. Might be some fine print somewhere about liability...

I've played with this site a few times over the last year. I just did various designs for fun. I did have some trouble drawing anything complex so that it could be machined, but that just might be me. If you actually do design a part, one of the keys to a good price is to order more than one. Essentially the first one is expensive (setup cost), but additional pieces seem reasonable. Also there was an article about eMachine in Wired magazine a few months ago. The author designed a custom guitar body made out of acrylic. Another cool site for custom motorcycle parts is mechwerks

So, if we could get a group of us to commit to a design, for example new upper and lover triple clamps or passenger foot peg mounts, it could be done for next to nothing....

If there is consensus about something people would like to do I would be happy to draw it up for them. I have Inventor 9.0 on my laptop. That is what I used to design my tank badges. Now if I could only find the time to get those finished. I have been working as a design/research engineer for over 8 years now at a manufacturing firm near Chicago. Throw some ideas/sketches my way and I'll see what I can do. I am sure I can always waste time at work doing this since it will actually look like I am working or something.

As you say, some of the things on the example price section suggest it's only a little more expensive to buy 10 items - if it's something you like, chances are someone else will want one and you have 9 you can sell and not only make your money back but be quids in!

Hmmmm, have a one off part or be quids in. That is indeed a hard choice!

Looks like you need to use their software to do the design work. I'll have to check it out to see how easy/difficult it is to draw in. I usually do parts in 3D and then let Inventor create the orthographic projections for me. I hope this software will let you cut and paste.

Al, I just talked to the guy the created my one-off rear peg brackets and he has a set left that he will sell for $100.
How did you make out with the shocks?

Mike put in new springs, but problem persists (scrapping my exhaust pipes). I called him last week and he was going to call Hagon for advice. Haven't heard back, left a message today. Currently, they're sitting in a box beside the bike and the OEM shocks are back on. No problems with the OEM shocks. Can't say I'm real pleased at the moment, we'll see what happens.

See post #56080.... metal console that can be chromed..... Angle the idiot lights towards the rider and eliminate the optional holes where the rubber thingys are. If we want more holes we can drill them....

Grump/Dinq,
I like that idea. Sounds like something to do through the winter months as I think that will take some serious thought and drawing talent to get done. Would definitely be awesome though.

That has always been a sore sot for me. I hate the friggin plastic console. It looks great, just is a cheap piece of turd. But, that's whay the bikes were less than many others and still superior in quality elsewhere, where it really counts. A friend of mine was going to make me a cast of one so we could get some made up, but unfortunately he died before we could geta round to it. And sadly he was the only person that I know that did sand castings for MC parts. Anyone else know someone? It is actually a pretty compplicated part due to the curves of it. Step up, one of you mechanical engineers.

the part wouldn't be too hard to design if I had the right CAD program... I'll see what I can do.

Any idea what spring rate is installed on your shocks? Mike installed a higher spring rate, but still the problem persists.
Mike asked me to ship the Hagons back while he waits for Hagon to get back to him on a remedy.

Or how's about a fork brace that fits over the stock front fender? Something similiar to what RaceDweeb has on his website for the Bonny or Thrux.
