Got my '04 SM in april with BUB slashcuts on. The tone is nice but they are a little too loud for my taste. The company says I can add packing , anybody out there know how to install and how it will affect performance?

JC Whitney carries muffler re-pack material. As for using it, it takes the trial and error method until your satisfied. I believe the BUBs have removable baffles, try wrapping a thin layer around the removed baffle, then reinstall it. If you make the wrap too thick and cause to much back pressure you may have to rejet.

The baffles are accessed by drilling out the two 3/16 rivets toward the rear of the pipes. you can't restrict them because there is 3/4 or so hole straight thru. wrap your fiberglass around the baffle and reinstall using (and only using!) stainless steel 3/16 rivets. do not use the average aluminum ones, as you will end up losing a baffle at a very inopertune time! you may need to persuade the baffle out with a wooden object and a hammer from the header end. good luck...
