I got a nail in my rear tire. The question is, do you guys think it is safe to buy a new inter tube and patch the tire or should I buy a new tire?

As long as the nail is small, like the size of a roofing nail, and it wasn't in the sidewall, buy a tube and the tire will be fine.

I'd definitely buy a tube (shoot, i might even patch it) and reuse the tire. If it was tubeless, I'd add a tube.. no sense wasting a good tire.

What Chy said and I too would probably patch it but be sure to use a good patch not one of those cheap bicycle patches. Even a tubeless I would probably patch, not plug but use a vulcanizing patch on the inside.

I have two plugs in my tubed rear tire patched from the inside with the plug protruding out and cut off. Still riding with it with 17,000k on the tire. This reduces the speed rating but the tire is still usable. I have both replaced my tubes due to being shredded by nails and patched them for the smaller nails. I keep a spare tube around. I think people seed the roads with nails in this part of the world.. I just ordered a set of cast America wheels (chrome ones) because of the number of times I have been stranded on the highway (This is also my big purchase this year for the bike). With no real way to repair a tubed wheel easily on the road.... tubless is the way from now on for me. I'm keeping the spoked wheels for now since I still like them better than cast. Doesn't take long to swap them.

You can go ahead and plug it, but then you can't ride with Moe. I've had a plug in my front tire for 8K miles so far, no probs.
