I know this sounds like a stupid question (given the amount of customising I've done over the years) but how do you get those chrome covers off the riser bolts?
I've tried a very small screwdriver and a knife (tentatively) but I'm frightened of damaging the riser laquer. The bike's only a week old so I'm still babying it, but I'm getting backache and I just want to move the handlebars a bit or maybe swap them.
Are they glued on?

Mine were not glued in.Just took my pocket knife at the edge,they potted right out.

Just pressed in and you can get better ones from many hardware stores if you damage any. The ones at the hardware store are all metal in some cases. The ones in your riser bolts are plastic.

Peter they are made out of plastic which has been chromed, they peel very easily. But you can get replacements on eBay.

I used a very small flat bladed screwdriver at the edge and just lifted it up on mine..

I used a little C4 and ran for the hills! No they should come out fairly easily. In fact mine fell out.

I used a box knife to get under it and pop it off.

The 06 didn't come with any... I got some off eBay.

I wasn't kidding about the hammer. I still can't get them off. So far, I've tried various screwdrivers, 3 different knives and a chisel(wood)! It's the laquer on the top yoke that I'm bothered about, not the covers. I think I'm going to have to split them.

You want to adjust your bars,

Remove caps see pics from 4 allen screw that hold down bar clamp to the riser. Then use allen key to loosen clamps. adjust bar position and make up in the reverse order.





I lifted my caps with my finger nail, they are only plastic snug fit.

Thanks for showing me how to get them off. I can't believe I never thought of it. For anyone who's interested, I thought the socket head was a chrome cover! I didn't realise they were just the toppers. Doh!

Good laugh here too! I can just see you trying to get the head off the bolt! I don't mean to be nasty either but it really is funny!

+1 Peter, I thought the same as you did, but haven't tried yet, just some head scratchin'. Anywho, where exactly are you old salts getting those $30-40-50. pullback risers for the BA? Cheapest I can find are @ $150. Saw the Scootworks ones, interesting but I dunno....

Those are the ones I bought from Ebay, don't get Duce risers though they have a shoulder on the bottom you would have to grind off.

For the risers like mine they make either a 1 piece cap like I have in my pic or they make separate caps 1 for each riser. If you use the HD style risers they have a 1/2" thread and need to have adapters installed or the top tree drilled. I have a lathe so I turned my own adapters but you can buy them.

Received. But now - the HD style are bored for 1" bars, BA bars are 1"?. Boring the tri clamp - 1/2 " is bigger than 10 mm, so what kind of adapter is needed? Thanks - Bad hair day here....

Our bars are 1" bars. There are adapters here You would need the 1/2"x13 to 10mm X1.25 in most cases. The HD risers are 1/2"X13 in every case I have come across but don't want to make a blanket statement since as soon as I do someone will find an exception.

Done and done. Now it makes sense, and there are some real nice examples out there in that HD bin of risers. Thanks Cap'n, you saved me a bundle.
