On some photos web page I see of our TBAs, the carb assembly is black. Is that a factory option or custom? I like the look and wondering if they can be painted. If so, has anyone done it and how?

Depends on your skill level. It would, if done right, require complete carb disassembly and great care masking and plugging any area not to be painted. It would also require a very good cleaning and prep job so the paint sticks. Powder coat would be more durable and then most likely require being done professionally.

I did remove my carbs before paint. but I just used a small hobby brush and some black rustoleum. I also polished the bowls while the carbs were apart for a rebuild.

Heres my original post Painted carbs . The pics seem to be missing so Ill add them here again. There also this post Painted Carbs, a little different by ArsnlTim. I got the idea from someone else...cant remeber who. Its not that hard...and seems to be holding up very well. Ive put about 7000 miles on since then and they still look great. Ive pressure washed her, used S100 and Motorex spray cleaners and even dripped fuel on em. As long as you dont wipe the fuel off your good. Here are the pics: Heres a link to the flikr set for this...a few more pics... Flikr Painted Carbs

I could be wrong but the first painted carbs I saw I thin belonged to Phil. I could be mistaken about that but that's how I remember it.
