I wrote Memphis Shades about getting a windscreen for my '04 Speedmaster, off their technical section 'contact us' page. I just got a reply which I surely didn't expect:

Subject: RE: Web User Technical Assistance Request

We don't have anything for the triumph.
Thanks
mary

Short and to the point I guess.. but knowing that others have successfully put them on their bikes here, I would suppose a bit uninformed.

Cheers,
Brad

I agree, they do fit, and several people here have them installed.. So I wrote Mrs. Evans back, indicating my confusion given that I know for a fact they will bolt on, and even provided a link to the review that biker quotes above, and to the accessories forum talking about using both their windscreens and lowers. Low and behold, I just got the following from her:

Hi we do have a kit for the spedmaster but not for the America.
Thanks
mary

-------------------------------------

So there you have it, straight from Memphis Shades.. they DO have a kit that will work with the Spedmaster[sic], but NOT for the America! Me thinks they need to hit their technical support staff upside the head with a clue stick. Particularly since in my original e-mail to her, I specifically said I wanted a windscreen for an '04 Triumph Speedmaster.

Cheers,
Brad

MrUnix,

Sounds like she really couldn't be bothered.

Imagine what would happen if a foreigner like myself inquired about their products?

Q: Hello I'm from Greece and wish to inquire about the Memphis Fats for my Triumph Speedmaster, can you tell me which mounting hardware I need?
A: Something probably like ... "Sorry, we don't ship to South America!"

That would get me "sorted", right?

Coincidently, I just ordered the Triumph Roadster windshield on Friday as I plan to take a "longer" ride (Romania - weather permitting) at the end of the month.
At least I know this one fits without hassle and I will not need to speak to a ... "Mary".

I have the Memphis shades on my bike. You order the Suzuki Maurader 800 mount kit. It works perfect for America and Speedmaster.

It might not work if you have the driving lights, which're generally assumed to be more for the americas than the speedys, by the general (ie: non-triumphant) public. Anyone tried it?

It may not work with the driving lights unless you cut the windshield. I've never seen a bike with both a Memphis Shade and Driving lights. The Memphis slim would probably be a better choice if trying to fit the Driving lights.

Weather permitting? Isn't that the reason for a windscreen? Well that and gerbing products...

It is a bit of a hassle to install the mounts. Be sure to use some blue locktite on the screens' bottom bolts' nuts.

What size do you order for the headlight cutout?

So Cat - I see that you have the mounting brackets with the mounting nuts to the back - mine are facing to the front - Do the mounting nuts hit the tank that way or will they clear? Does it help the head buffeting having the screen back closer to the driver? I have a 21 memphis fats with lowers and the windscreen it nearly straight up to eliminate most of the head buffeting - I perfer it angled back so I can ook over it rather that through it but my head feels like it might get torn off there is so much buffeting - (I'm 6'2") any comments would be great thanks!!

I also have my Memphis Slim standing almost straight up and down to stop the buffeting. If you put your hand up to your face and follow the wind flow, I think you will find it's coming up around the tank and not from over the screen. I've heard that a set of lowers stops the buffeting. I'd like to try a different idea. I'm going to order a Memphis Shades Pop Top. Hopefully it will have different air flow characteristics.

I have the lowers as well. They do make a BIG difference but still some buffeting -just enough to get on my nerves. a constant jaring of my head gives me a head ache after a while. Its not to bad untill about 70 mph but any at all just doesn't seem right

Mine is dialed in perfectly now. it's a 19" but I got the headlight cutout extended up 2" so it's like a 17 that goes down 2" further along the headlight. I have lowers that cut out the buffeting and I find the best wind reduction and least handling impact with the shield tilted back about with the fork rake.

works for me!
