Not knowing much of the mechanical side of my bike i went to my local dealer to ask about the airbox removal and the AI removal. They didn't seem to know much at all so i need some help. I need to know if The Freak airbox removal kit will leave my bike looking exactly as it did before installation of the Freak. Also are there any other modifications i may need to make on Freak installation. Secondly, will the the AI removal kit improve my bikes performance and will it involve any further alterations. Is it only used to avoid headers blueing or is there some other technical reason to remove air injection? I just want to do whats best for my bikes longevity and performance(2005 Speedmaster). Any advice would be appreciated.

The freak will leave the bike with the stock look. You will have to rejet the carburetors if you have them. Removing the AI requires no further modifications and will not harm your bike at all. It is only used to reduce tailpipe emissions.

Prevention of pipe bluing is essentially the only reason to remove the AI, yes. No performance increase (or decrease) that has been proven that I've seen.

I think the AI removal probably does make the engine run slightly better since the AI isn't robbing any vacuum from the left intake. Doubt it is enough to register even on a dyno and definately won't feel a change. The Freak does leave the bike looking stock bur helps improve the way the engine breathes. Only way to really take advantage of that is to open up the exhaust too since the extra air/fuel mix needs room to escape after it is burned. That will increase performance. Have to rejet for sure.

Interesting... I have noticed on some of the Speedies with parts like the black clutch lifter cover, that they also seemed a little "purplish" instead of black. I also have the stainless bolts in mine.

Remove your AI even if you don't care if your pipes blue. You'll know why the first time you try to get your spark plugs out. Thats the only other reason I can think of.
