According to today's Wall Street Journal, Honda motorcycle sales were up 34% last year, compared to 2007. Nevertheless, Honda said it expects MC sales to fall by as much as 10% next year. To reduce costs, it is shifting production to cheaper countries. Among the changes, engine parts will likely be produced in China and India.
Nikon has been producing SLR lenses in China for at least a couple years now, and I recently read that Nissan is shifting production of its largest-selling automobile to somewhere in SE Asia.
Looks like Japan is following the US right down the tubes.

I've got 2 1999 Nissan Navara dual cabs, and they were manufactured in Indonesia. So they have obviously been producing outside of Japan for some time.

Nikon's pro glass is made in Japan and the price reflects it.

That's interesting, one of the products I sell is no longer produced there. China is having problems and closed a bunch of factories. I was told that the factory manager fled to another country and is in hiding.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

The importer said that one's failure in China is not accepted very well.

Yep Rob, we sure do alright. Though personally, I think that's somewhat "fair compensation".
Yep! I've always said we should give ALL those folks "parachutes" made of solid gold...and then take 'em up for a little airplane ride!!! 
(...though unfortunately it seems we always forget about that second part there)

It's a global economy. I bet we see more of that in the future. I wonder if Goldwings will still be made in Ohio along with the Accords.
