That was a good article. Not just about the T-bird but included comparative info on several models.

Thanks for posting the article. I like most of the bike. It looks better in these pics than the earlier ones. There is no doubt that if I could get ahold of one of these, I would have that funky, added on license plate holder and signals off. I don't know for sure what I would do. But that crap has to come off.

Don't want to start a T-Bird opinions thread but...

Rich...I totally agree. I think a side mount plate would look good on that bike and mount the rear sigs on the fender brackets, I guess. That's the one I haven't really figured out yet either.

The weird thing for me is, they do a ton of tweaking and refining on everything on the bike, and then, they patch this license thing on, seemingly as an after thought. Maybe there is some kind of styling here that I'm not familiar with.

I'm liking the black "Baseline" bike.
The chromed rear fender supports look leaner
The tank badge is more old skool
The headlight is less bulbous
The battery cover looks smoother
More chrome on the induction and engine
The forks have chrome sliders not satin ala "Blue Bike"
...and if I'm not mistaken the bike looks lower in the rear. Even the tank looks different.

I think I'm more confused about what Triumph are bringing out now than before I read the article.

...yes, that is a single seat...no, I will not put the other seat on...yes, I am selfish...yes, you should buy your own bike

But for the radiator, it looks nice enough. I wonder if it will be available with proper wire wheels?

I'm in high hopes that my weekend trip to Daytona will finally shed some light on the subject firsthand. Pictures (if they're good enough) will be posted Monday.

It doesn't grab me the way my TBA did but clearly that's just me. I certainly found one quote striking:
"Triumph ... sold just under 45,000 units worldwide to Honda's 13,476,000"

That's incredible.

Keets, I am with you on this one. I thought the exact same thing.....so much so, that I printed a pic of the "baseline" ride. Now that one, I could get into!! I hope it looks like that instead of that big fatty Guzzi looking fuel tank with the tiny I wish I was a badge.

Baseline is pretty hot. Looks almost good enough to ignore the weight problem. Almost.

Adding wire wheels and restyling that obscene drive sprocket cover would yield an instant Japification factor reduction of about 10.

This looks much better but still don't like the rad, pipes, and sprocket cover. Guess I could live with the look of the head.Won't be selling my SM any time soon.

I think that Triumph has a huge winner on their hands with their new Thunderbird.
This bike is everything everyone has been asking for, well, about as close as you are gonna get.
I predict that they will sell like hotcakes and people will be lining up to get on next year's list when the first lot is gone.
I have some hardcore HD friends that grew up on Trumps and are drooling over the bike and cannot wait to see one, or better yet, ride one.
Yep, two big thumbs up.

Wish I had the shake, I'd be in!

I agree, I hope they do sell very well, that will help keep Triumph alive and well as a company. I wouldn't mind having one to play with but wouldn't sell my SM to get one. The things I don't like about it can mostly be changed. Wish they had an air cooled version with fins.

No question about it - recession buster for Triumph!
With aftermarket mods for individuality it will be a massive hit. Apparently feedback has been overwelmingly possitive - will translate to strong sales (relatively speaking).

Zzzzzzzzzz .....Zzzzzzzzzzz .....Zzzzz ....HUH?! Did I hear the word "FINS" ???

Nah, don't worry. I won't go there...THIS time, anyway!

However, what I'd like to know about is...that tank badge?! What's with the "eyebrow" tank badge on that black T-Bird above??? And I ask this because on every other pic I've seen of the T-Bird so far it has a rather "anemic-lookin'" little oval badge on the tank that doesn't exactly "proudly say" that this new machine is a Triumph!!!

And so, was the "eyebrow" tank badge photoshoped by somebody, OR...will the T-Bird actually come with a tank badge that PROUDLY displays its name AND "heritage", such as this pic shows?????

(and BTW...yeah, those ARE "fins" you see on those cylinder barrels alright, Angel....itty-bitty ones that are STILL too "itty-bitty" in contrast to those finned cylinder heads.....but like I said, I won't go there.......much)

Yep, Dave. One would HOPE those fellas who "forgot" those "fins" would have AT LEAST figured out that a tank badge which(as I mentioned above) "proudly" says "TRIUMPH" across it would be a good idea...wouldn't one???!!!

I can only imagine what these things are gonna do when they get all hopped up, putting 130+ hp to the ground, the stock power numbers are probably pretty restricted for emissions.

Yeah, from that angle you can hardly see the radiator and the lack of fins is less noticeable. Do you have that picture in high resolution so Dwight can put it on his computer desktop?

Except for a few easy changes, that bike looks really cool. I'm interested too, Dave, to see what kind of numbers this thing can get with some performance mods.

All that bike needs is different turn signals and a side mount bracket for the license plate. Clean up that tail.

Oh, it also needs my butt in the saddle...

Nah, it will be the closest thing they have to a "starter bike" then, at least in cruiser form.

Though I wouldn't put it past 'em to do somethin' EVEN MORE "insidious" in the future!

Okay, and now, Ed-DY!(as in, "FAST eddy"): Ya see this one photo here of this otherwise great lookin' motorcycle? Well, get to work on those bolt on "you-know-whats" that we've been talkin' about, so those cylinder barrels don't look so, so...slab-sided, and well, rather boring, OKAY?!

(I mean, why let this very nice photo which Ed(the other Ed, once again) posted go to no use, RIGHT?!)

Well since the HydraBird is a done deal, I hope Triumph does well with it. But if I ever happen across a bottled genie...

There would be the stock T-Bird for RUBBs* and the new air cooled America Baseline, with restyled head and barrels, that weighed in at well under 600lbs for the rest of us. Of course that is assuming a third wish as the first two are spoken for.

Feb. 28th in Daytona at the Triumph factory show truck/tent outside the speedway. I took advantage of the timing and delivered my nephew's 19th birthday present to his dad's house in Debary (that lucky kid got a 2001 Bonneville to learn how to ride properly...) and my brothers joined me in a lap around the speedway to look at the goods.

The good stuff: the new Indians are spectacular, lots of retro Indian color and trim schemes and a well balanced bike to sit upon (drool). OCC had a very nice bobber the attendant called a "Senior Special" that's meant to be a $22k production item. I immediately wanted one; it, too, was very well balanced. The Bourget's are exactly what you see in print, it's a bike for a certain rider and not for me. A small bike builder, Bill Farmer of USA Choppers, had a series of very simple but nice bobbers on display and his entry price of $12k blew away the competition.

The T-Bird was pretty well balanced but it did feel heavy, kind of like a Road King when it's parked, but the rider ergonomics where spot on for my 5'10" fat frame. I really liked the blue bike, it had lots of aftermarket bling that made it very hot-roddy while the black one was set for touring and the silver was just a plain jane base model. I gotta ride one to be sure but I'm thinking that the T-Bird's the one I'm looking for.

We sat on lots of bikes, rode none and were very curious why Honda's display was still under construction on opening day...not one Honda in evidence. Pretty odd for the dominant company don't you think?
