I thought the tank pads were for the older America/Speedmasters and are NOT for th new shape tank.

Actually, when I ordered my tank or pads for my 05 speedie, the shop sent the pads for the new shaped tank. When I looked at them, and never actually having seen the pads other than in photos, I new straight away they were not for my bike.

So, yes the new tanks do have pads but they are a slimmer (not as wide) design than those used by the older tanks.

Agreed...I specified Tank pads on my 08 America and they were fitted by the dealer...I presume they have an adhesive strip on them that you peel off the top layer to expose the adhesive bit then stick em on.

Clean the mounting area with alcohol to get rid of dirt, wax, etc. I marked exactly where I wanted them to go with masking tape. Peeled off the backing and stuck them on. Still doing fine after 3 years.

I haven't seen one of the new tanks with the pads yet. Post a pic after you put them on.

Just an idea....
Before you peel off the backing, stick 'em to the tank w/masking tape
(make a small loop w/the sticky side out)
and step back aways to take a look.
Make sure you have the right spot, then mark it off w/masking tape and stick it on final.

Thanks guys, yeah, they're the right ones, I was a little concerned myself while waiting for the to come, but it looks like they will fit the contours of the tank just fine.
Wish me luck!

Well I did it, hot tough at all.I spent way more time thinking about it than doing it. They fit well and look good, I think anyway.
Thanks for the ideas!

Would love to see how they look. How about posting some pics. Anyone else done this that could share some pictures?
