I was quite suprised today when I was filling up my speedy and some chap came up and did the usual "nice bike mate". He then asked "is that a bonneville?" I was quite impressed. I thought this chap might be quite an enthusiast. So I told him that it was a Triumph speedmaster. "Oh I've never heard of those before." "I went the bike show and really liked those Triumph America's". So I told him it was more or less an America and was suprised that he didn't see the speedmaster that was parked next to the America on the Triumph stand. "Oh do Triumph make those as well then?"
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

I'm with you, and in opinion the America has a much more comfortable riding position.

It must be tough on the Speedy owners living in the shadows of the America owners and all. They're on the fringes of society and I think some of them like it out there. Truly going your own way, every way and no way all at once. We shouldn't feel bad for most of the Speedy owners cause it's self inflicted exile. However, I do feel bad for the Speedy owners who unknowingly fell victim to the allure of the black engine, drag bars and gunfighter seat. Their's is a long lonely seemingly endless journey into obscurity. Only now do they realize the blunder they've made. Only kidding, I love Speedies almost as much as my America.

Blimey, I didn't want to start an America vs Speedmaster debate. It just suprised me that someone could like a Triumph America and not even hear of a speedmaster. What sort of monster have I created? By the way I much prefer the speedmaster.

Umm, BonevilleAmerica.com. Not sure if the rest of you have ever heard of a compound word. Even though its base words can operate independently, as used in a compound word, it is only ONE word. I'm thinking as used in the URL it is a compound word. So I got Celt covered on this one since he was correct in the first place. (See, I don't hold the Canadian residency against all of 'em, eh?)
BTW '02 Bonneville America's rule! (...and no, I do not purchase anything from newspeedmaster.com)
Ride On!

Isn't it obvious what bike is the better more refined machine? Every work of art needs a rough draft to the final refined finished product, like the America is to the Speedmaster.

The America wasn't even an option, but the Speedmaster, she just called to me. I'll stay out here in my Speedie exile and enjoy it.

Any bike with 2 wheels and an engine requires a certain amount of respect, as too the rider, we all face the same dangers everyday, have the same interest, and similar problems related to our machines, we share information freely and support a biking community... But they should all be black....

6 of one... I like both bikes. But if the BonnieAm had a blacked out engine and twin discs on wire wheels it would be no contest. As it stands, the Speedy is my choice by a slim margin. Of course once the custom bug hits, either bike makes a capable platform for personalization and transcends the BA/Speedy divide. Quote:

This is true now I guess, since the America finally caught up with the superior look of the Speedmaster and adopted black inner engine cases.
