My butt insists that I change seats. I am trying to decide between the America seat or the Triumph 2 up Touring seat. I have sat on the America seat but haven't seen a Touring seat to try. Any sage advice will be greatly appreciated.

The touring seat is VERY similar in feel and comfort to the America seat AND the Speedmaster seat. I have all 3 and change frequently. Really, they all kind of feel the same except I think the touring is just a little more comfortable for the longer rides. But, in my opinion, the LOOK of the touring seat is the least favorable.

I have the America solo seat and the stock speedmaster seat. For me, at 6'2" tall, i find the speedmaster seat to be far more comfortable. It seems to have more padding at the rear.

I have the stock America seat. IMO, it's not nearly comfortable enough for touring. My old HD Tourglide seat had it beat by a mile.

Thanks for the info. I bought the Triumph Gel Solo seat and it is very comfortable but it is smaller than the stock America seat and the back edge of the seat pan cuts into me just above the buttocks. As the America seat and the Touring seat are the same price I am just looking for the most comfortable on this 65 year old butt on a 2-300 mile ride.

Well the Touring is much more comfortable because there is no cutting into the butt at all like the solo seat does. I especially feel it on long rides but not on the Speedmaster seat or the touring seat.

That's the problem i have with the stock America seat. The speedmaster seaat doesn't have that issue.

There is probably a fan of every seat out there. Just another alternative to consider is finding a local custom shop and asking them who does their seats. I find that worked well for me. I can't say it was better than an aftermarket or a Triumph brand seat, but it was a big improvement over the stock Speedmaster seat. They worked with the original seat pan so there was no question of fit on the bike. Good luck.

I feel the same about my BA seat. I ride 300 to 500 miles on any given day on a week end with a min of 150 miles if I get a late start. I am comfortable the whole time. If I did anything it would be a gel insert. Going to on Wendy's one of these years. Here is how and the stuff to do it is available on Ebay fairly cheap. instructions

Obviously, there are a lot of opinions on seats. I find my stock America seat very comfortable, so much so, that I've never considered another seat. I'm 6' and 165 lbs. I did change the original pillion for the 07 and later one. My wife loves it.
For a split seat arrangement, I think the current America seats are one of the best stock seat set ups out there.

I bought the Corbin-used it for 2000 miles-and hated every one of them. The guy who bought it loves it! Go figure. The simple Spencer seat mod did the trick for me just perfect. I put 8000 miles on that seat before I sold the bike and it was just perfect for me.

I have no problems with my stock America seat...but I'm thinking of a gel seat for the sake of my back. Before my back got bad I'd do miles on the stock one. I haven't recently, but I just have not really been up to it.

My stock America seat was comfortable enough to do hundreds of miles at a time, but the vinyl cover would make me sweat pretty good. My Corbin is even more comfortable, I have done over 1000 miles in a day with it, and the leather is nice and breathable. Still make some sweat, nothing like the vinyl seat. Leather vs vinyl may be something you want to consider.

Sometimes it takes an adjustment. I didn't have mine tailored for me originally from the factory, and it was way too hard. But after I sent it back for an adjustment, I haven't had to use my AirHawk cushion or sheepskin cover. I had a gel pad on top of the stock seat 7 years ago and hated it.

Be careful, the Triumph Gel Solo Seat is smaller than the America seat.

My stock gunfighter is good for about an hour and a half before I start to hurt. I just put on my solo seat I had done by Spencer "greatdaytoride". It is so nice, I had the gel put in it. I am looking forward to taking it on a long trip. If I like this after a multi-day trip, I might have him do the gunfighter too, so I can take the very occasional passenger. You can't beat his prices, unless you can do it yourself.

I've always found this subject difficult cos there are so many different shaped back sides out there. Some like the stock, some don't. Some like the Corbin, some don't. Some like the gel insert, some don't.
Now if we were all the same, then we might have some more constants out there to help someone who asks this question but we aren't so in that case, I reckon go and see a well known and respected upholsterer who has done good work for others and get it done that way.

What I liked is Spencer's "gel" pad is not like the others. The gel goes on the seatpan and the foams are built up on that. I can tell you that my America had zero vibration at any speed. 100% 9and there is not much to begin with) was filtered out. The shape was just a bit different from stock but just enough to make it perfecr-for me.

Saddleman "SaddleGel" pad in my stock seat. Works great, about $50. They do get warm in the sun. I need to pop the cover off and add a layer of white foam between the gel and seatcover.

Well, after discussing with eddy the prices of gel inserts, allowing for time, the fact I'll probably fook it up, and import duties... I've ordered a Triumph Gel seat. I'll get a discount from the stealer.... so it won't be as bad at the price list. I'll let you know. But the post that said it's smaller.... It shouldn't be. The pic on the Accessories site looks the same... but I'll answer that one it arrives.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I decided to take my gel solo seat to the upholsterer. He told me that the seat isn't too small but that he needs to take some foam out so there isn't so much of a rise at the back as that is what is cutting into me. There wouldn't have been a problem at all if I hadn't changed my handlebars causing me to sit straight up, but then the problem would have been with my back. I need to go slap a fortune teller so I can strike a happy medium.

At a svelte 240 lbs soaking wet, the stock BA seat just didn't cut it for me. I was good for about 25 minutes before the pain started. I sent the seat off to Mean City Cycles in North Carolina to get it re-packed. the price was reasonable and the turnaround was quick (less than a week). I got the fat guy special that has 2 different layers of memory foam. So far the Wisconsin winter hasn't allowed me to try the "new" seat out yet. I'm hoping it is an improvement.

Hmm.. Got the gel seat. It IS slightly smaller than the stock one the 03.... but it's not going on that one. My 06 is currently at the dealer at home (just had it's 8000 mile service at 9056 miles) and I'll tell you what it's like on that. I'm not at home at the mo, so it'll be monday.
It's about 8mm narrower either side. But we'll see how it is actually on a bike.

Speaking of saddles.. I sold my Corbin and placed an order with LePera through Mike Sellman. The seat is solo, in white sparkle with black piping. When it arrives Sellman kits it with the tractor spring mounting kit. I am pretty psyched for it, and will be certain to post pics here

I had a stock America seat redone with a gel pad and a deer hide covering. very comfortable, no vibrations. Once the seat is warm, you sort melt into it.

OK then... now done a bit of riding round town on the gel seat.
It is the same size as the 06 seat, so they must have made them slightly smaller at some point. It is very comfy, as I was sat in rush hour traffic for a while. And no vibrations at all.
Next test will be a long distance ride, but that will be a while away. Just easing myself back in to the riding thing.

EXactly, I was always mystified to hear people sitting on a 02 BA stock seat all day, and I could set my watch by it, 45 minutes & I had to climb off, it wasn't a choice. Now I can sit all day in comfort.

I want to get an Alaska Lether- sheepskin cover, so when I get off work in the mornings, I don't have to sit on a wet seat. Thouhgt it might come in handy for long trips too. Anybody know what size fits the best for the America seat?

I have the small size, it fits perfectly on the Corbin seat not hanging over the sides. It is nice on long rides and cold days.

There used to be a neat product on the market called Cool A$$. It was foil on the outside with an elastic band and was originally designed to keep you seat cooler when the bike was sitting in the sun, but it worked great to keep it dry also.

I think the problem with everyone analyzing the stock seats is the differences in the seats themselves. I've had 2 different stock solo seats, they were different as night and day. Had a Gunfighter, it was different. Had a Touring, it was by far the most comfortable. Got rid of it because I didn't like the look. Later bought another Touring seat just for long trips. The raised rear portion is good for tying tent, sleeping bag, etc. Everything is raised up enough I can still get into my saddlebags. This second Touring seat is different than the first one I had.
