While reading another post, the writer mentioned rolling his bike into the Hotel room with him. I did this once. I had just put together my custom engineered "57" and was taking a trip with my wife through Wisconsin. I'm always a little paranoid, and I was worried about the pristeen, antique looking bike parked outside at night. Mind you, I had spent a year looking for parts and six months building it. I rolled it into the room, put a piece of cardboard under the motor (you old guys know what I mean) and crawled into bed. Within minutes, I sat up and said, "Hey, I smell gas"! Sure, ya dumb monkey, it was venting from the cap. so I pulled the cap off and placed a piece of vynal from the plastic tarp I carried with us. In retrospect, I'll bet this was a surefire safety problem waiting to blow! Oh well, I never did this again, but I still think about doing it. Now I carry a small and ineffectual, I'm sure, cable with a lock.

You shouldn't worry about such things. In the Harley Boutiques they refer to that as 'Mens Cologne'.
I always worry about my bike when I'm staying in a hotel. I always ask for a ground floor room with a parking space for the bike directly in front of the door. Not that it helps. I still spend half the night looking out the window to check on my baby.

I know that smell - at college in South Ga. quite a few times I actually rode my Kawasaki 500 flat tracker up the stairs and down the hall and kept it in my dorm room on a milk crate . Really . Room 51 , 2nd floor Comer hall . Gotta love the smell of Bel-Ray . Ooohh , the 70's were SO much fun .

Most decent hotels will let you park your bike near the front entrance in a high-visibility area.
A couple times we took the bike on overnight trips into Baltimore MD and had to leave it in a secure parking garage. I never lost a minute's sleep.

I always ask at the front desk if I can park under the canopy (if they have one) right in front of the main doors to the hotel. Everyone sees the bike but no one bothers it. Good visability, less worries

Why does everyone worry about their bike in a parking lot? we dont think twice about leaving a 30, 40 or $50,000 car or truck out there.
we should do this every weekend!

It's not so easy to toss my 4WD Cummins Dodge in the back of a van. I had no problems with my old ratty '76 XLCH though. It went like stink but it didn't look like anything you'd want to take home or even down the street.

In the 70s I built a ramp up my steps to my apartment so I could put my 75 Norton Commando (Candy Apple Red-Silver stripes on the tank) inside. I recall the song by Black Sabbath- "Fairies Wear Boots (and you got to believe me). " Yes the 70s were fun. No more left handed cigarettes for me, but when I get old will it really matter? Is is still legal in Oregon?

I left my '69 Trimph Daytona in the dining room for the entire year I was in Vietnam 1971-72. My wife took excellent care and the kids polished it every week.

My oh-so-understanding wife let me keep a Yamaha 125 in the living room of our Latham Park duplex in Greensboro, NC during the late 70's. I finally upgraded to a Honda Magna V-45 in 1982 (sadly, it wouldn't fit up the stoop and through the narrow front door). That V-45 was my commuter bike to Alabama back then and I very fond memories of it...

I always parked my sporty in the house. A motorcycle is way to easy to steal or mess with.
My wife wouldn't think of making me park it outside. Even now after 27 years of marriage she makes me put it in the garage at night.
On a side note with all of the battery operated tools out there you can cut through any cable in about 5 seconds or less with a right angle grinder.
A few years ago some folks I knew had their deep freeze full of meat stolen from thier house.
They simply cut the wall out with a chain saw and put the whole freezer in the pickup truck and drove off.

When I first got my Softail, I worried about leaving it in the parking lot. As time went on, I noticed that people might stop to take a look, but wouldn't touch it. Same thing with the Trumpy. Also, it's not a $18k bike and it's insured. Hopefully, nothing will happen to it. If I does, I'll replace it or fix any vandalised part.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

Hey! Well, all I can say is that you guys better WATCH IT!!! You see, I used to ride with this one guy who loved BOTH his REALLY hot wife, AND his Ducati which he would keep in their bedroom when he wasn't riding it. But one fateful day he arrived home early from work to discover THIS scene unfolding RIGHT HERE... ..and well, long story short, the poor guy is now servin' 10 to 20 at Folsom for puttin' a .45 cap into that poor Duc's engine cases! (BTW, is you're wonderin'...that hot wife o' his escaped that terrible scene unscathed, filed for divorce, and is said to now be living confortably in Fresno with a Motor Guzzi...she always did have a thing for those Italians, ya know...ain't it too bad that she never seemed to learn her lesson?!)

You're tellin' ME, Kev! Looks like this new medication they've got me on just doesn't seem to be doin' the trick anymore! (yep...I guess I better find that ol' mouthguard of mine here, 'cause they're SURE to be wheelin' me into that electro-shock room REAL soon again!!!)
