A plea deal is in the works for Billy Lane, the celebrity motorcycle builder charged with killing a Melbourne Beach motorcyclist while driving drunk in 2006, attorneys said.
“I can’t talk about the details right now because we have a couple minor details that are up in the air,†defense attorney Greg Eisenmenger said Thursday during an interview with FLORIDA TODAY.
He said he hopes to receive confirmation on those details from the state today or tomorrow, and anticipates Lane to enter the plea next week.
“We’re in agreement on all the major points,†said Eisenmenger. “We’re 99 percent there but we’re not 100 percent there. We’re close enough that the court felt it was appropriate to take it off the trial docket and we’re close enough that we’re confident we’ll get to a plea.â€
The announcement comes days before Lane’s scheduled Feb. 9 trial.

This just in: Gerald Morelock is still dead.

Well HECK! After readin' THIS PART of this latest report... "...Billy Lane, the celebrity motorcycle builder charged with killing a Melbourne Beach motorcyclist..." ...I NOW feel kind'a bad about jumpin' on this poor guy all this time in that other on-going thread about this sad incident! Yep! I didn't know this all happened down in AUSTRALIA, and so MAYBE poor ol' Billy here might've just been CONFUSED about which SIDE of the ROAD he was supposed to be driving down that night!!! (yeah...maybe THAT'S all there was to it, HUH?!...a simple "mis-understanding"!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Of course that's it Dwight, we all know it couldn't be drinking. After all alcohol doesn't impair your ability to drive.

I guess he'll "take responsiblity" for the accident. A local columnist just recently described the difference between "take responsiblity" and "to blame". He concluded those that are "to blame" generally get fired or pay consequences. Goverment officials, etc. typically just "take responsiblity" (or wealthy bike builders)

I got a DUI when I was a kid too my blood level was .29. I blacked out then came too just before a hair pin turn. I hit the turn doing 90 and it was a 15mph turn. Skidded out bike hit a curb and cement wall I hit something, not sure what. All that happened to me was a little road rash that the jail wouldn't let me see a doctor for and got infected. I should have sued the jail but was too young to think of that. When I got out and went to get my bike the only damage was a dent on one frame tube under the engine and a broken clutch lever. I swapped the break lever for the clutch and rode the bike home. I also got lucky and got ARD so no jail time and no record just took classes and paid a fine. I did stay 2 weeks in jail waiting to go to court.

The point I was trying to make was how do you trash a drunk driver and then tell a great story about your drunk driving???

I remember it fairly well, I even remember arguing with my friend about which one of us was too drunk to drive. I was a professional drinker back then and remember most except the blackouts. I remember fighting with the cop and trying to start the bike while he was trying to arrest me too. I can recount a few other times too. My friends first time home from the Navy was another bad one but didn't get caught that time. My friend next door saw me pull in and said I drove in perfectly then swung my leg off the bike and fell half way across the parking lot. Spent the rest of the day drinking with him. The night I had the .29 we got kicked out of Ghostbusters because we were too loud and roudy. Have to remember back then I drank every day all day until I passed out then started again as soon as I came too. 1 friend and I drank 3 5ths of JD and 2 cases of pounders that day and that wasn't out of the ordinary for me. That's why I quit drinking, If I hadn't I would probably be dead now.

Now that I think about it I'm not sure how much of that is memory and how much is what I was told. I haven't had a drink in 22 years except 1 beer after my friend was sentenced and 1 shot in honor of a friend who died. Those were 2 separate times years apart.I quit drinking when I turned 21. I had an unlimited tab at 3 local bars by the time I was 18 and was a regular at all 3 and even was friends with the owners.
