Started on my Big Bore project this evning, all bits and pices arrived and i am exited to get it going. First up with the bike from the floor Now it´s getting naked! ...and of with the carbs! This is Ulf, my helping hand and supervisor for this project. The beautiful cars in the background are his work so i feel that i am in good hands if i run in to any problems Left side marked up and backlash retainers in place (thanks Piper for mailing them to me) ...and here is the right side all numbered up and ready for dissesemble. That´s how far we came today, the boring and sleving of the cylinders are planned for next week so im in no rush....yet Time for a brake... all according to the exellent "Big Bore Saga", thank´s Pat.. this one is for you! Roadworthy,
Do you have any jetting sugestions?
I am keeping the stock airbox for now, bottom cut, no snorkel and K&N air filter
What jets are you using and have you done a dyno with the 904 installed?

I have 155 mains and 45? pilots, I can't remember right now, I will know for sure tomorrow. I will be putting on my CR Specials finally! When I take the stock carbs off, I will open them up and see what's what. I also had one shim under the needle, drilled slides, and Ninja springs. Also K&N filters with Scepter pipes, but my head is port/polished with +1mm oversized valves, so my jetting may not be right for you. I'm also only like a few hundred feet over sea level at most. Lots of stuff to take into consideration, but my bike runs well and isn't lean anywhere, just fat in the mid range a touch right now.

Dropped my bits off at the machinists today. Time to figure all the gaskets I need, & off to the dealer.

Johann, my bike was dead from the cold this morning, it's been 15 degrees all week, so I didn't get to change my carbs today. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 60, so I should be getting it done. I will let you know what my exact jet set up is then. BTW, I love the paint job on your bike!! (I've probably said that before!)

If you haven't done it yet, you might want to strap that bike down on that lift. Gravity never sleeps.

Had a hard time finding time to put everything together but today the last bits and pieces got on and we fired the bike up Great feeling to hear that engine waking up again! Noticed a slightly deeper tone at idle compared to before but there is four inches of snow outside so no testride yet... But all sounds and look right so i am happy anyway!

Congrats. One of the things I didn't count on or think about prior to the BB was the lower pitch. I love the BB rumble. Let know how the ride goes.

Thanks all, it has been fun to get to know the engine a little better doing this myself (with help from my friend Ulf) and i am exited to get it on the road again. Unfortunaly there has been snowing for days now so it will probably take a while before i´ll get out. I will be doing the running in "Motoman" style so i dont want any ice spots or gravel on the road Johann

Finally some nice weather and time to ride! Did my running in "Motoman-style" today, about 35 km of hard rewing and motorbraking followed by a oil change and then 60 more killometers of riding just for the fun of it! Seat of pants dyno tells me: More Torque YES! More Horsepower YES! I would say that Torque is the most noticable difference, the engine feels much stronger than before at lower rpm´s but also the extra hp kicks in when the revs get higher. Right now my setup is 145/42,TBS needle (no shim), K&N (no snorkel and bottom open), totally guttered stock pipes with my own designed baffles. I really need to dyno the bike soon and se where i am at with my jetting and where improvments can be done. The engine runs nice and smooth thru the rpm´s and there is definitly another more potent sound there as an bonus Johann

Still getting down into the mid 20s F(20 F = -6.5 C ) and upper 40s to low 50s during the day. (40 F = 4.5 C , 50 F = 10 C)

Is 904cc the largest available kit that doesn't require a stroker crank?

If memory serves there is 1 bigger kit that you don't need to stroke the crank but you do need to bore cases for the larger diameter cyl..

Guess I need to do some research. I'd like to have a larger BA, maybe 1,000-1,100cc. Triumph apparently isn't going to do anything along these lines.
