Not been beaten to death mate. You have a bike in the UK. I assume you ride most of the year. It's going to rust I'm afraid Most UK riders who ride year round have rusting bikes - seems to be banjos fittings, bolt heads etc. Poor quality fittings - bikes built to a price. We all try to keep our bikes nice at first but you're fighting a losing battle unless you have so much time on your hands you can clean the buggery out of the bike after every ride. I'm on the verge of 'ratting' my America just because I rode it all year round! My Rocket is about 6 months old and it's fast catching up with the America! The gauling thing is when you see bikes from warmer climes that look better than when they came out of the showroom By the way mate .... expect to be collared soon - you'll know it when it happens!!

Hey James. Another America in Bristol... I see them and wonder..... Anyway. My 06 is kept outside, has been stood for 3 months with no cover on while my back was bad, and yeah has bad bits. I did spend 5 hours last Sunday catching up with the rust, and I have some product called ACF-50, that claims to stop rust in its' tracks and prevents any more. See here It's from Riders (the Harley dealer in Brislington) but was £13 a can. It can be got off eBay, but it' only 50p or so less. If it works, it'll be worth it. I got a recommendation via someone else, who used it on a Speedmaster, and that's kept outside too. And no, I haven't put it on yet... after 5 hours, it rained.... But I'm a stickler....and get the mickey taken at the TOMCC meetings for having a bike used every day that's too clean....
Gina
03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel...
06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel...
09 America - It's very blue....

A liberal coating of penetrating oil on *everything* slows the corrosion down.

Thanks for all the helpful comments, Just hoping the Trumph would stand up better than she has, never mind will try autosol and some buffing discs, still much prefer riding my bikes than polishing but shame to let the beauty go to seed. And yes ride all year round blame it on being Scottish and having had to make do for years with 10 days sunshine spread over 12 months. Member of Voyagers Avon bike club where we ride out most Saturdays 120 mls yeterday bloody lovely it was, few stops cup of coffee here and there, yep life aint so bad. Except for the cleaning today LMAO Ride safe all. James ps no sign of pm's

I don't know if this will help, but serious corrosion occurs when two different metals contact each other and acid is added. That is how a battery works. Wheel Aluminum and steel plus add acid rain, salt and you have a very weak battery. That reaction creates corrosion. Take some baking soda and mix it very weak in a bucket of water and wash off your wheels and see if that helps slow down the corrosion. What you are trying to do is neautralize the PH level of acid.

Another little tip... don't use washing up liquid to clean the bike (contains salts and is abrasive). Always use an auto shampoo.
Not saying this would cause the corrosion but it certainly wont be doing you any favors.

WD-40 The WD stands for water displacement, cheap, easy and actually works (at least here on the other side of the big pond).

Try using Scottoiler 365. It has won best corrosion prevention substance in one of the main Bike mags last year. It is a water soluble spray on oil solution which, finds its way into all those difficult to clean areas. Best applied after washing bike following a rideout. I am using it and so far so good...

Still use it Greg, but gone on with the ACF50 even though mine stay wraped up in cotton wool with a water bottle. The Jap can be used in winter..

AUTOSOL is great for stainless but not so good for chrome ,every time it is used on chrome it takes a small layer of chrome of until it is back to metal and rust takes over
What goes round comes round
