Hey Everyone: Its been a few years since my last post....Still have my "Black" 2002....Have two bikes now and keep the America babied...Want to keep it for the Grandkids to use...Need to change brakes...Dealer here in Lynchburg,VA closed his doors last year....What does everyone use to "HEAT" the caliper bolts prior to removal....Noticed this is required to loosen the loctite....

I've never used anything other than just a socket and ratchet.

Wow, that's a fine and comfortable looking bike. Plenty of carrying room on that baby!

Same here, no heat. Sounds like you got the best of both worlds, big tourer and classic styled trumpet. I often think about doing the same thing for my wife and I's long rides.

we have look at a couple BMWs in full dress too, Trouble is once I ride it to the destination I'm stuck with it. So I wouldn't and it would end up sitting in the shed.

heat might be needed if your are replacing the rotor(s). Actually a rattle gun works just fine to break the blue locktight on the rotor bolts. Get yourself a tin of brake cleaner and pay attention to the position of retainer clips. some brake grease on the pins during re-installation helps with the noise too. When removing the caliper, loosen the pad pins first.

That blows about millerbuilt. Heck the last time I went by Bill's shop, he didn't have any tires. had to buy a me880 for the front from the honda stealer next door. and EBC sintered pads are the standard replacement.

I haven't held a pair in my hand yet but I see our break pads very cheap on Ebay.Even if they are straight organic (I like organic better because they don't wear the rotor semi-metalic are best of both worlds)they are so cheap you could go through a couple sets and still save money. Next best seal and very fast shipping was Fast Eddie. This is a set for example but have seen others from other sellers for about the same price.
pads front

This one says Equivalent to EBC # FA-196 $9.99 + 6.99 shipping they are regular sellers and have others in stock. more pads

So as you see there are plenty out there.

Moe: Thanks for the reply....I recall a post of yours about a pic of mine..I think you and the wife rode the PKWY through here some years back...Not changing the rotors...only 14,000 on the speedo...I noticed the pad pins..Whats the purpose?..Are they the small 5mm recessed points on the caliper...Right...On the Venturerider.org site there are post of the repair manual...Has anyone done that here for the 02 America's...$48.00 total for the front and rear...Delivered to Virginia from cyclebrakes.com...

Gave up my 1968 a long time ago...the 2002 STAYS...I do not know how many here did this, but I remember it being mentioned a long time ago....The 2002 Daytona had a 100 year Triumph emblem on it...I had the dear order a couple for me and I put them on the America....Everyone who sees the bike always sees the 100th Anniversiary Logo and starts asking questions....That was a great idea from way back when the site first got started...Just want to share that...

FWIW, I just changed front and rear pads, and there was no Loctite anywhere. Job took ~ 30 mins.
