Well, I have to say you guys MIGHT be right about Jackson's motivation for startin' this here thread, BUT I'm gettin' the distinct impression that you guys who responded from the following locations of: "my little house in the snow", "St Louis MO" AND "DeMotte IN", sound, well, just a "mite" envious of Jackson's reported ridin' conditions here!!!

Now, if I'm right about this then I REALLY "hate" to tell you guys the following, BUT it's about 75 here in L.A. right now, and so THIS warm weather wimp here is thinkin' of hopin' on his Triumph motorsickle and ridin' to the sunny shores of Hermosa Beach about 3 miles from here and enjoyin' a nice glass of ice tea at this one particular outdoor cafe he tends to frequent and where the young ladies in their bikinis tend to walk past a whole lot.

(sorry 'bout rubbin' that in.....I'm soooooooo bad, AIN'T I????!!!!)

(hey, but at LEAST you respondents here get to "enjoy" those "four seasons" every year, RIGHT???!!!)

(oh GOD, I'm soooooo friggin' bad!!!)

I rode to work this morning too, 32 degrees and windy. Oh yeah and it was uphill the whole way. .. and snowing. But seriously it was 38 miles, mostly interstate, and i was quite comfy dressed like a red and black michelin man. Couldn't stand to miss out on the first decent day in a week.

Actually Dwight, the temperature has very little do with riding for me. I either do or do not. I think lazyriders intent is to aggravate others on this board who can't get the bike out at all. He has been known to do that, you know

Thanks for pointing that out. In some odd masochistic kind of way I do. Good to have that reminder sometimes. I've lived in the land of "there is some green stuff out there it must be winter and there is some brown stuff where the green used to be it must be summer" kind of places. As sad as it is to not be able to ride right now without bundling up and still being uncomfortable I'll still take the "four seasons".

Ya do have to appreciate the nice bikini clad lovely's no matter what time o' year it is though, eh?

I rode one day last week while it was in the 60s. Highs only the the fifties this weekend, may wait until next week when it's back in the 60s. Don't get me wrong, I'll ride in the 50s, but prefer 60s and above if I have a choice. I do not ride when it is below 50. Fortunately, we don't have many days like that here.

Yeah Bob. And don't forget besides that nice weather you guys have in Florida, you ALSO have all those great mountain roads with all those fun twisties to enjoy ridin' around on too!!!

(oh, wait a minute here...THAT would be in sunny and warm CALIFORNIA and ARIZONA, NOT sunny and warm Florida, wouldn't it???....never mind)

I had a few great winter rides to Florida while stationed in the frozen wastes of new England. One week spent riding the Keys was particularly enjoyable, made all the better with excllent fishing! I had an XS 650 Special at the time and can't wait to do it again on a Triumph. Good times.

Not sure but I think it's the endless weather posts not the fact that you have decent riding weather or are enjoying the bike.

Hi Dwight..there is also one other point that i would like to make its really not the cold weather that keeps most of us northerners of the road ...

it's the sand and salt that they put down on the roads..first all the salt really kills the chrome and polished aluminum and stainless steel..a short ride and you will have to clean for a long time...and then the sand it like going to the beach it gets every where.. and if you get stuck behind some one it like riding in a sand blaster..and talk about no grip on the road..for get about it..

and so even if its get warm most of us even wait for a couple good rains to wash the road off before we head out..

a good sign that we will be riding soon it the big vacuum
trucks out ...yes vacuuming the roads..and all the intersection ...

but most of us don't let the fact we can't ride our road bike get us down.. there lots of stuff to do...snowmobiles are a blast and a great way to get out and have fun.. and yes folks we have snowmobile rallies here.. other fun that we do here is ice bikes i have friend that have them we take them out on the frozen lake and blast around ..

so the fact that I am not out on the road on my motorcycle is not killing me ...

so when some one said I rode my bike to work again..

I say big deal..

Ed

Hey pal, the friction on this forum started because a handful of members couldn't accept my criticism of the distinctly unfabulous Thunderbird. I didn't just meet resistance to my opinions, I was insulted for them, and not just once. And when I happened to note that it mostly seemed to emanate from a certain geographical region of the planet, and that the trash-talkin' Bobbsey twins were incitin' the trouble, those who didn't agree with my opinion of the bloody bike found it a convenient time to blame me for the ruckus.

I'd like to tell ya what I really think about your role in this, but I don't intend to let you get me banned from the forum over this stupidity. Most of the folks here have found it possible to stay civil, and I still consider it a good place to meet people who share my interests. As for you, take your sand and your snow and your crapmobile and stick 'em. I've got great weather here - it was 70° today - and it's not my fault you don't. By the way, did I mention it was 70° here today?

To the mods: Well, ya know how it goes sometimes. I'm just not the kinda guy who sits around and takes too much of this sorta thing without soundin' off about it. My opinions are often different, I'm not afraid to discuss 'em, and I don't expect to be insulted when I do. Not everyone in admin land can deal with that, so if it's a problem, just let me know. I'm easy.

I wish I had the peanuts and popcorn concession for these fights... Oh, and just to continue the continuity of this thread, I rode yesterday for a little while through town, 54 degrees. No problems except for the icy private lane, did a small five feet side slide before I got it back under control. How bout you, Dave, get any ride time in the south of here?

You asking me there, Rich? It's pretty nice out right now, gonna be that way for a few days, but my bike is in the shed in the back yard all snowed in. I'll be getting it out tomorrow and putting a few miles on though, most of the snow should be gone then. As for today, well I have Super Bowl activities to participate in

I think you all are pickin on that Texican.
I've been known to get to work and make a post because I was just sooo happy to be able to ride to work on my trusty Triumph and doing it when it is real cold kinda makes you proud, especially now that I'm an old fart. Just like every winter there is a case of cabin fever going around I do believe.

I had my first Triumph, a 70 Tr6 in PA. and rode it in the ice and snow in Western Pa in the 20's (not 1920's Dwight 20 degrees). And In Colorado when I lived in Glenwood Springs I road over Vail pass a few times when there was 6 to 10 feet of snow in the woods. Now I live in the Sun belt ( or is it the Bible belt?) in OK where it is not uncommon to have 70 degree temps in the winter. But,I have to admit, I would rather be in Hermosa beach (I lived there 6 months also) having a cool one with Dwight and watching the surf and bikini clad young ladies.

Are you kidding me, Rich? That means I would have to buy a scanner and learn how to post pictures here and become computer literate. They didn't have digital camera's in the 70' and 80's.
