I just purchased a new Garmin 76cx GPSr. i'm looking for a mount and was tossing around the Garmin mount which i have never seen, and the RAM mounts version which looks pretty tough, and I have seen their stuff and it's very sturdy. It doesn't look very stylish though, where the Garmin seems nicer.

Any thoughts??

I like this one. Finding the right adapter might be an issue.

How did you mount that unit? How do you hook up the power? My power connector is dead center in the back.

Garmin Motorcycle Mounts

I too have a garmin now, and I need to find a way to mount a 12v outlet since I don't use the stock motor mount.

Clay...I used the Garmin StreetPilot Cradle and wiring harness, made for my 2730. I have a Battery Tender harness hooked permanently to the bike battery and it's easily accessible under the seat. Bought an extra cable end and soldered that to the GPS wire and plug that into the Battery Tender connection.

Any GPS mount with the standard 4 hole set up will fit here. Note there is a hole in the back...which could be drilled out to fit your wire placement.

Clay....here you go. I buy all my GPS stuff here and have had great service.

You can buy the Cradle separately and probably mount it to the Kuryakyn mount.

If you go with the Ram mounting system, I'd also order the shorter arm. Find the 3" arm too long and causes some vibration. I've given you the Canadian site...switch to the US site via the flags at the top of the page.

Another question for gps owners, do you guys have motorcycle specific units, or car ones that you hope to not get wet? The bike specific ones seem to be a couple hundred dollars than the ones I can get at Target or RadioShack, maybe because they are weather proof and vibration resistant.... I'm just curious because I would like to get one for some longer trips.

I purchased my Street pilot 2730 from a site under Amazon for $168US. It's refurbished, but is as new and all accessories are new in unopened packaging. It's waterproof. One year Garmin warranty. Up to date maps. XM radio. MP3 player. Here's a popular site with similar deals.

boy, that's a good deal. I love my zumo but I know people with these who are perfectly happy with them.

mind you the zumo included mounts for the bike and the car.

I use a Blackberry for work so just bought the GPS software/service for it. Do have it mounted in a 'holder' that gives it some weather protection. Have a Garmin 7xx in the truck which is better at GPS but the bb is a GPS, MP3 player, and cell phone/email device all rolled into one. But it does keep me on a short leash as far as work goes. Though I do make it a point of not taking calls, emails etc. while riding.... another reason why riding is a nice escape from some things.

I've got an old 2610 on the Beemer, which I'm planning to move over to the BA. I've always used RAM mounts. They're not especially pretty, but I do like the flexibility, and the fact that they've got a mount for just about everything.

I was at the local H-D shop yesterday picking up a part for a friend, they had the new Harley logo waterproof GPS system for only $799! But, you can use it with your gloves on....

I'm going with the techmount, and the RAM cradle. I am also going to get a couple of the Kuryakyn 1420 brackets for some custom mounts.
