VERY carefully scrape it off with a sharp razor blade, hold the blade like your trying to skin the pipe, only lightly. It will come off, I know!

I had a plastic shopping bag blow across the highway and wrap around the pipes on Wendy's bike. I ran the engine until the pipes were good and hot and wiped off what I could with a clean soft rag. Then I polished the rest off with Blueaway. Worked well and was fairly fast.

It's happened to mine twice. I didn't want to scrape it off with a blade in fear of scratching the chrome. I rubbed if off both times with acetone. The acetone will in no way hurt the chrome but will slowly dissolve (melt) the plastic. Use rubber gloves if you have 'em to protect your hands. Pour the acetone on the a rag and rub the plastic. Depending how thick the plastic is, it will take a while to dissolve. You don't have to rub hard, just keep applying until it is gone.

Paint remover takes almost anything off chrome with no effort. Brush it on. Wait. Wipe it off.

It does, and you can get neat acetone at the chemists.

And it's VERY flammable.

Acetone is a lot cheaper than nail polish remover which is acetone, fragrance, and other stuff. You can buy it almost anywhere here in the states. Marine stores, paint stores, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc.

I melted my cover onto my right head pipe several years ago.
I let it cool completely overnight. Next morning I started my engine with razor blade scraper in hand, and held my bare hand on the header pipe until it was uncomfortable. I then scraped at a near flat angle and was surprized to see a big chunk of plastic come off intact. The residual stuff was removed immediately after with a xylene (Xylol) soaked rag while pipes were still warm. I used simichrome polish afterward to remove the haze. Hope this helps if I'm not too late.

Here's a tip on how to prevent it in the first place.
