Apparently they bring in enough money from tourists the rest of the year. Can you imagine if the city of Sturgis did this? It would dry up and blow away.

There is nothing else to do in Sturgis. Myrtle has tourists year round.
It's a shame that instead of figuring out a way to make Bike week a very good event, they run off the crowds. I understand a lot of what went into that ordinance like curfews, not paying for your food, but some of that stuff is silly.
Keep in mind people that there are residents there that do not need your money or the hassle.
I know I would hate being in the middle of a revelry like that if I didn't want to be.

Yeah, nobody goes to SW SoDak to see the black hills or Mt. Rushmore. Nothing to do or see there.

Not talking about SW SoDak, talking about Sturgis. If I'm going to see Rushmore I'm not staying in Sturgis.
How many time do you go to Sturgis, not during bike week? Do you know anyone that goes there every year, multiple times, and never during bike week? See, people go there(black hills, and Rushmore) and then leave, and don't usually go back. Myrtle is different, people go back all the time. I've been in the winter and the summer. Myrtle has an economy that doesn't depend on bikes. Sure, bike week doesn't hurt monetarily, but it won't be blowing away without it.

Silly rabbits....the new rules sound like the work of old farts to me.... Cant say I blame the residents but in this economy I would of thought any city that relies on tourism would have wanted pretty much any event they can get. I think Vegas would even welcome back the NBA allstar weekend at this point.........Well perhaps its not that bad, yet.

You seem to think I'm attacking here but I'm not. Just drawing comparisons. I think you're a little too close (regionally or otherwise) to this to discuss it rationally. Actually the city of Sturgis wouldn't disappear if the Black Hills Motor Classic went away, it is still located on a major interstate and would probably be not much more than a gas stop on the way to various tourist attractions. But it would look vastly different without that massive annual influx of cash. Myrtle Beach would (and will) look different too but the effect will be much less apparent. Myrtle Beach can do whatever they want, I just hope there's no other kind of backlash from the biker community.

Any backlash will prove that it shouldn't be there.
Also, you're in no position to tell me whether or not I can argue this rationally, especially because I lived in New Jersey the first 3 time I went to Myrtle beach. I'm still 5 plus hours away.

Wait a minute here Clay, I'm a bit confused here.
You said John was wrong about your ability for rational thinking and THEN you mention living in NEW JERSEY!!!!
Dude, aren't you undercutting your own argument RIGHT THERE????
(hey...I'm kiddin', I'm kiddin'...don't take offense now...I LOVE NJ...no REALLY...it was JUST a friggin' JOKE!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Reason for nyrtle beach bike week ending is because Black bike week after bike fest. Blacks tearing up motel rooms, Driving like fools on crotch rockets, Not paying for food at restaurants. Planty more reasons also. Have freinds living at myrtle beach and they hated Black bike week. You can,t stop Black bike week unless you stop all Rallies.... Big Goverment will get you. ACLU and NAACP will cry blody murder. Have a nice day.

My brother lives in Myrtle. He was an avid supporter of Bike Week for years. His daughters grew up doing bike week every year with him.
It is a correct statement. Black Bike Week last year was the end of it all. Theft, shoplifting, violent crime, assaults etc. He indicates it was the worst week of any short of Hurricane Hugo.
He strongly supports the bans and loss of bike week just to ensure Black Bike Week can never happen again in Myrtle Beach.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Fort Lauderdale did the same thing when they decided to kill Spring Break. It worked. Any SB festivities now are a mere shadow of the Good Ol' Days.

I don't get this one. SC state law does not require a helmet but a city ordnance can override that locally? I don't care that much since I ride with one 99% of the time anyway. Maybe I'll have to see if the state law has any language that allows for local changes.

I can understand it from a locals point of view. I know people that live in Johnstown and dread bike week because of the noise. They don't get any sleep that week. These are people I know personally and are not at all anti-bike. It's fun unless it's in your backyard when you have to get up for work the next day.

The same thing is coming for BikesBlues&BBQ in Fayettiville, Arkansas...except they have some really great roads for day rides....i.e. some locals are looking for any excuse to rid themselves of the cycle crowd..... They can move it to Fort Smith, we will sure take the revenue

Not everyone, just some in Fayetteville. The other towns love it because all hotels are full to the MO line and restaurants are crowded all weekend. But then they don't have to deal with the crowd F'ville has.

It's a shame the retirees in MB are in control down there. I went for the first time last spring and hung out in Surfside with a bunch of Buddies from Fayetteville that I was in the Service with. Just hung out and had some adult beverages. The wife picked out some new boots and otehr goodies. Went for a ride to check out Georgetown just to hit the road for a few hours. Watched a bunch of sharks off the pier. Everyone I saw was in a major chill mode, other than a few egos with loud pipes, but everything was fine. Didn't go to the rowdy places cause I am too old for that crap. But there was an extensive history with this motorcyle event, and now it is gone.....

I understand why MB did what they HAD to do and it has already been mentioned. Still, I look at it this way, if MB doesn't want bikers there, then fine, I won't go to MB, ever...neither 2 nor 4 wheels. I'll also encourage those I know not to stop there either.
It's like reliving my Florida days where the Daytona residents began b--ching ever couple of years. Except those in MB actually won.

I here ya Moe, last time I was down there was about 5 years ago. I told myself then I'd never come back. Just something about that place I don't care for.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Just better stay out of MB if you go, I can see cops waiting for the loud pipes etc...especially at the time of BW. I went once and to be honest from a biker point of view I didn't see the attraction. I have been quite a few places I would rather go. Like I said I went once and now it's been there done that.
