Anyone out there have first hand experience with the Rivco Side Stand Pad (see link below). Seems like a good idea but I wonder if the setscrew method of attachment is "heavy duty" enough to "stand up" (pun intended) in the real world. http://www.fasteddysports.com/?page_id=3&category=7&product_search=side+stand+pad

I have one and its doing just fine, had it maybe a year (@ 7000 miles). It comes with a peice of VHB tape (super sticky double sided tape) and i used loctite on the set screw.

Mine's been on for years with no problem. I think I tightened it up once after it had been on for a few months. The bike leans on the stand more than most Harleys with more weight on the end. My bike almost fell over once on asphalt when the stand sunk into it.
I think it's a must. It also eliminates having to find empty beer cans to use on sandy soil.

I'm on my third pad. They work really well at keeping the bike from sinking into asphalt but for whatever reason I have a ****** of a time with the chrome scraping and peeling off of the pad. Fortunately, Rivco has been great about replacing them both times, the second time being out of warranty.

I had one. One day with the bike on a lift, I was cleaning and polishing things and when I ran the rag across the pad the scuffed up chrome on the edge sliced my finger open... Not a put-down, just a warning.
Last year, while trying to bypass a parade in a small town, I ran over an asphalt curb at an angle going into a side street. It ripped the pad right off the kickstand and bent the crap out of the thing where it slides over the stand. I thought of getting another one, but haven't...yet.

Hmm... IMHO such an "exposed" item should be solid SS...

That would be nice. Any pad on the kickstand will get a lot of abuse on hard surfaces like concrete. Still, it looks good on the bike and is extremely functional - wouldn't do without it. Triumph should design a better one to begin with that comes on the bike.

My only observation is that in a hard left lean the pad will scrape pavement before the footpeg does. It's a bit un-nerving.
Yes! I am a Redneck. Any Problems?

If someone could design a replacement sidestand with a greater surface area that is less apt to scrape in a turn for under $100 I'd buy it.

Thanks for the idea.. I have a spare kickstand I bought cheap off of ebay because the chrome was flaking off. I'll just bet my favorite welder at work could modify it and then I'll get it rechromed...
