Has anyone been given or bought one of these bells?
The "legend" says:
Evil Road Spirits. They are vicious little demons! Turn signals ever failed to work? Maybe your battery suddenly went dead. Chances are the Road Spirits have hitched a ride. Road Spirits love to ride, but they can't hang in the presence of a bell. The constant ringing drives them insane, forcing them to lose their grip and fall to the ground. Ever wonder how potholes are formed? The bell has served its purpose.
If you picked up a bell of your own, the magic will work, but if the bell is a gift, the power is doubled and you know there is someone special looking out for you. When placing the bell on your bike, the closer to the ground, the better.
Has anyone heard of this, a friend gave me a bell, it's on the bike (cuz you can never have enough luck), but I haven't noticed to many others, so I figured its just a marketing gimmick, right?

Faye, Check this site concerning the bells. This Rikki is a Triumph rider. I think she rides a '72 Bonnie with a side car. She designs, makes, and sells these things. She's a nice lady. She and her husband often ride with a group of us from the Pittsburgh area with Brit. bikes. She does all sorts of art work. www.rikki.bizBarry

Of the maybe 15 cycles that routinely park at work, mostly the Wings and HDs have them.

Hi Faye, Try this site for a decent selection. BTW I don't ride without one. I'm not superstitious but a friend gave it to me and I didn't want to hurt their feelings. http://www.smokeymountaintrading.com/

I have one, hung on the frame cross bar behind the front wheel. My dad gave it to me when I bought my bike. He's into finding antique brass ones and giving them to his riding friends. No harm, and maybe it does some good. Becky

No bells, but I do have a Indian Medicine Wheel that I got when I was in Cherokee North Carolina. I have it hanging on the inside of the Roadster Screen. It is supposed to give me good medicine when riding, thus far it's been working.

I always wanted one of those bells. Ever since I saw one on a Big Dog Harley once. I like the ones on the Smokey Mtn Trading post site.

Always had a bell (well since the 70's)...you never know when an evil road demon is upon you and the bell might help. The way I understand it the power of the bell is doubled if you receive it as a gift. The gift of a bell is the first thing I do for any new motorcycle owner that I know.

I've also been giving brass bells to new riders since the 70's, and to this day, not one bike has been seriously damaged on the road.

I had one on most of my Harleys, especially the rigid frame ones. I used it for a rough road indicator because they rode so rough and shook so much that's the only way I could tell if it was the road or just the bike.

Jimmy Stewart had a bell on the saddle of his horse years ago. I wonder if that's where it started.

I suggest Jimmy got the idea from the scene from It's A Wonderful Life when a bell on the Christmas tree mysteriously dings and the little girl in Jimmy's arms says something like "everytime the bell rings an angel gets its wings!"
Come on, I dare everyone to come up with a better explanation.

NEVER!!! buy your own bell!!! but DO!!!! get one!!! it only works well when it has been given!!! it is an old superstition but i am not about to start trying to prove this one wrong!!! and yes always hang somewhere close to the ground. the demons then get trapped in the bell and the ringing drives them insane and causes them to fall back to the ground. i have one on my 72 and that bike has never failed me(except in the rain) in 112000mi. i dont know if its the bell or if i just got a good Triumph, but i'm taking no chances hahahahahahaha now Greg show your sweety this post and see where it go's?? if your not given a bell... i will have one for you when we get to chy's!!! GOTTA HAVE A BELL~!!!!!!
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Gee, all my friends that ride Harleys seem to have them but no one ever gave me one. I suppose that either means...
A) They know that Triumph is superior bike and said protection is unnecessary, or B) They know I'm not that friggin superstitious.

Most of my friends don't ride and hence don't read forums like this. How do I provide a hint for them without being obvious?
Dang demons!
Ride On!

I have heard of this "bell" thing before, but I don't buy it. I am considering a lucky "chrome shotgun" that I can mount on my handlebars.... It's the road demons with the cel phones or the 1000 watt stereos that give me the most trouble....

Airguy, why not be obvious, just ask them for a small brass bell. I don't know where to get them, but Robin buys them on a cord, about 7 bells tied to a cord. Wait!!! Where are you... Robin says she will send one to you! She works at a Post-Net. Send me your address to lbgregg@msn.com, or post it here. thats a small L in front of the bgregg.

Hey, how did I do that to my email address. It didn't do that when I posted a message about motorcycle-superstore.com?

Apparently the system is smart enough to recognize the syntax of an e-mail address and automagically create a link. Doesn't appear to work with URLs, or does it? Test: http://www.google.comWell, look at that. Maybe you left out the "http://" part.

That's right! You can't buy your own bell! It's not as good of luck! My neighbor bought me mine.
