Hey Scott, was there anything planned for Friday during the day for everyone who shows up on Thursday evening?

That's a good question, but I am sure if he hasn't planned anything we can all come up with something. There has to be some kind of sights to see there.

What intrests the group? there's museums, casinos, shopping, nice backroads for short trips. Quite a bit to see all withing a 30 mile radius of Timmermans. I have to work friday, but i'll be happy to point out, or give directions to anything you want to see.

Saturday, the big ride, from the hotel, to the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, IA, then through bellevue along the Mississippi to Savanna, IL and the Iron Horse Social Club, Back up to Stagecoach trail and into Galena. I'll try to find somewhere in or near Galena where we can all stop for dinner. Ride Map (subject to minor changes)
I took a 200+ mile ride yesterday taking a bunch of various roads within and near the planned loop for this Saturday. In Illinois, I just followed the signs up to Galena. I went up the west side of Palisades Park (84 to 20), backtracked down 84 to Hanover and then went back up to Galena via Blackjack Road. After I got home, I looked at the map and thought maybe I should have gone up the east side of Palisades Park on the Scenic Ridge Route. Maybe someone else has taken that route and can speak up (I see that we do catch the Scenic Ridge Route on the north side of Palisades Park).
Also, if we are looking for the most scenic ride from Dubuque to Anamosa - I think 52 to Bellevue... D61 to Cascade... 151 to Anamosa is the best ride. However, 151 (4 lane) straight down is definitely the quickest.
There were hundreds of bikes out yesterday especially around Sabula/Savanna/Iron Horse Social Club. I fueled up in Savanna, and when a car pulled up behind me - I pulled way off to the side of the parking lot to get the rest of my gear situated. At that point, a Harley rider pulled up beside me and (politely) said, "You need to get some pipes on that Triumph." I guess he wasn't impressed with my last baffle gone/2nd baffle drilled setup.

So, Livinginh and others, is it too early to make plans yet? It's about 3 1/2 hours from St. L. to here, or 3 if you drive like Dave. Then, I reccommend we cross over into Ill. to go north, as the Ia. side is pretty congested and boring. We also need to exchange cell phones, so pm me with that info. Whadda ya think?

Denny-Do you think going 52 all the way down to bellevue and across D61 on the way to Anamosa will take too long? If not it sounds like a cool ride.

Hey guys. Found out about the rally over on the triumphrat.net forum. I live in Galena and ride a Bonneville. Emailed Scott a while back to tell him I am interested in hanging out Friday and Saturday evening and go on the ride on Sunday. Unfortunately I work Saturday afternoon so I wont get to join you on that great ride you have planned.
Some people are asking about Friday. I work a bit in the morning on Friday until around 11am then I am open all day. If anyone would like to ride I'd be willing to put something together. There are alot of historic sites, state parks, etc. all within a short ride. I've seen Field of Dreams mentioned - that is an option. Stagecoach is a nice road east out of Galena and can get you to a neat little state park - Apple Canyon. Potosi brewery is up the road a little ways. Shullsburg where they make all the cheese is north of here. Anyways if you want me to put something together I'm down for a ride...although I'll go on record that I'm not a speed demon by any means.

I've emailed back & forth with a bonnie rider who is a Galena local and he passed on some great info. He's going to join up with us as much as he can. Here's some highlights. Scott: I was at the Dubuque Triumph dealer tonight and mentioned the rally...they used to help out with one here in Galena years ago. The guy I talked to seemed excited about the idea and said they'd be willing to help in case anyone needs repairs/has a tire go down/etc. It is Sindt Motorsports...they said to have the organizer call and get them the info. Irregardless they are a full service Triumph dealer...have examples of all the bikes on the floor at the moment and have a few racks of Triumph clothing and some other accessories. Worth checking out. He also added this; Friday and Saturday evenings there is stuff going on downtown in Galena...lots of bars/places to eat. Bands playing...in fact there's a Bob Dylan cover band at the Grape Escape on Saturday night...very appropriate for a Triumph gathering. Theres also the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque - I'm not a big gambler but that place is pretty cool. Brand new last year - it is a big complex with several bars/clubs, restaurants, a bowling alley, arcade, and of course gambling. Maybe it's because it news but it definitely doesn't have the dingy feel of alot of those places. That might be a place to go after the cruise on Friday. Lots of little shops downtown Galena - antiques, boutiques, specialty places, etc. but one place I'd tell you to definitely go in is the Galena Canning Company - The owner who is always there used to do alot of appearances on the Food Network. - the place has awesome salsas, dips, jams, and other sauces - and you can sample them all. As far as places to eat there are no shortages in Galena. Aside from fast food and chain restaurants there a ton of local places. Here are a few of the more popular ones... Casual - 111 Main - very good place. Lots of variety on the menu. They use local ingredients in their meals...its reasonably priced...good atmosphere. Boone's Place - bar and grill - burgers and more More upscale places - Flying Horse - bistro, Log Cabin - Greek steakhouse, Fried Green Tomatoes - Italian, Vinny Vanucchi's - Italian Very casual/good lunch spots: Durty Gurt's - good burgers, Frank O'Dowds Irish Pub - it is what it is, Fritz and Frites - German and French style bistro, Railway Cafe - good but small breakfast place/coffee shop Pizza - Cannova's and Procento's are both very good pizza joints Many more places can be found along with descriptions can be found at... http://www.galena.org/Lots of bikes roll through here every weekend so all of the places downtown are biker friendly from the low key casual to the upscale places. Thanks, Brett for the info we'll see you there!

Yeah, hitting Bellevue will add quite a bit of time. 151 is not bad - it will get us to the museum in pretty good time.

I wouldn't mind taking a more scenic route down to Anamosa, I just don't want everyone to be tired of riding half way through the trip. What about taking 61 south to D61 and then over to Cascade? About how much time do you think that would add? Do you think it's worth it, or should we just stick to 151?

We'll be coming back on 64, over to Savanna, IL and back up that way. Maybe we'll just stick to 151 on the way there since the roads after the museum will be nice. You gonna make it out gimpy?

151 to Annamosa takes less than an hour. taking 52 down to Bellvue and going across on D61 should only add another 45 min to that time.

Whats D61 like between Bellevue and Otter Creek? Are you moving along ok, or is it slow going? Maybe we can go this way and skip bellevue on the way back, just going straight across 64 to IL.
Mapquest has it at 2 hrs 23 mins going from East Dubuque, to Bellevue, to Anamosa going 52 to D61. That sound about right? It's 97.90 miles to Anamosa this way.
What do you guys think?

If I remember right D61 is two lane pavement that's pretty decent shape from Bellevue to Otter Creek, there might be a small unincorporated town to slow down in. Weather permitting I'll take a ride tonight and check it out. (i need another excuse to twist the throttle anyway)

I'm going to go ahead and make the decision here to take the alternate route. 52 down to Bellevue to D61. It will add 21 miles and 42 minutes overall to the ride, with the longest stretch being the first leg. My thinking is that most of us will be on the highway getting to the rally and going home, let's get off the highway while we're there. Here's an updated ride map http://www.mapquest.com/mq/5-Iw9FeqTM
