how is it I never come across anything like this? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090103/ap_on_re_eu/eu_britain_supercar_2And, I don't understand. First thing that entered their minds was, "Sell it!" My first thought would have been to see if I could get it to run and drive it around.

I bet that car is going to clean up real nice, too.... maybe it will make one of the pretty car lists?

Wow! Now THAT'S what one might safely describe as "quite a little find"!
I hope whoever buys it keeps it in as original unrestored condition as they can.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

"But only 17 were ever made, and when it's cleaned up and auctioned in Paris next month, experts believe it will fetch at least 3 million pounds ($4.3 million) and possibly much more."
Try to fix it up and drive it around? Not a chance. Anything that was changed would decrease the value.
I'd sell it too.
For the dough, sure. But also because a collector that could afford it would also most likely keep it as original as possible.

OK. Here's apparently the same car back in the day: Or a photoshop job. Doesn't matter.

I don't care if it would drop the value - I'd drive that sucker...be a crying shame not to let that old Bug run around a bit...you know it wants to. Assuming I was filthy Gates-rich enough to casually drop 4mil on an old car, I'd be casual enough to say screw the collectors and take it out for some Sunday drives.

Interesting that none of the heirs knew the old doc's pride and joy existed. Must have been a really close knit family

I'd run straight down to the nearest Bugatti dealership and trade it on a new Veyron, pocketing the extra million or so they gave me. Plus, than I could go 220 mph. [image]http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:aBJdeT5LZStvCM:http://www.testriffic.com/resultfiles/18218bugatti-veyron-big.jpg[/image]

I would drive the sucker too. So what if it dropped from 4 million to 3.5 million. It was still owned by a famous driver and is all original.

I know what you mean. I ran an ad in the paper at a whopping $1 per week seeking "Old bikes, check your barns etc." in hopes of the magic mint Vincent, 60s Po-lice Harley or the like for $100. Yeah, I'm a dreamer...
Anyway, your story reminded me of The Opening of King Stutz tomb. Interesting story too. They at least beat the tax man while still alive, but couldn't beat him after, proving the "death & taxes" theory true.

Those are nice, but the one I would really like to have from Ak Millers Garage is the old 'Iron Horse' that he built and drove in the Mexican Road Race (Carrera Pan Americana) in the mid 50's. It was a '27 Model T body with a tubular frame, an Olds 303 V8 and a Jaguar (moss) 4 speed. He finished 3rd or 4th overall against top drivers and cars in the world. That was the same year Ray Crawford finished 8th overall in a stock Lincoln Capri. Both finished first in class.

Different Ak Miller, but I thought that name had some historic signifigance in racing. Quote:
