Bonneville America Forums Forums Technical Forums General Tech I'm fighting with the damper rod bolt and loosing!

Okay, I have my right fork removed and ready for disassembly. I'm trying to remove the damper rod bolt. After about 10 minutes of turning the bolt I've come to the realization that the damper rod must be spinning with the bolt. The spring is removed. I have a Haynes manual and it speaks of tool which will prevent the damper rod from spinnign with the bolt. what is it? Where can it get one? and how much does it cost? Or does anyone have some pearls of wisdom that will help me out?

Air impact wrench worked for me. Spun the bolt quicker than the damper could spin. I had to make a long allen head socket though.

Rebuild the fork leg. Turn it upside down and lean hard on it. The bolt will undo, as the damper rod is held firm by the spring.

Alternatively a broom handle down the inside of the fork leg is usuaully sufficient to hold the damper rod.
