Got my Belt Drive Kit (thanks Brent) and installed it last night. Took 4-1/2 hours from start to finish. My biggest problem was aligning the belt. When adjusting my chain's freeplay in the past, I adjusted the slack while matching up the alignment marks on the rear adjusters.

I adjusted the tension on my belt the same way. After test riding, I notice there was a very small amount of belt material scattered on the swingarm's surface. I jacked it up, and spun the rear wheel. My belt was rubbing on the right side of the rear sprocket, noisely catching the teeth ever slow slightly. I had to fiddle with the adjustment quite a bit. The sprocket seems aligned with the right adjuster at the second mark and just past the first mark on the left.

I always considered my chain noisy. Coming off 25 years of belt drives, I just figured chains were noisy. Maybe it was the alignment. I've also noticed an ever so slight wobble in the front end. I'm thinking now that the alignment might have caused this as well. I'll ride it tomorrow and check out my theory.

BTW, the instructions on Pat's site, made the job easy. Thank Pat.

18T Sprocket/Belt: 3000 rpm = 52/49 mph, 4000 rpm = 70/68 mph.

Hi all - the marks on the chain adjusters are not very precise - I use a vernier gauge to check the alignment of the axle in the swinging arm..have also found that it pays to check this after tightening the axle nut as sometines it appears to change when you're tighetning it.

Regards

I don't recall seeing this on Brent's website. What was the cost?

When I aligned the tire to the alignment marks the tire was WAY off. There is a string alignment method that allows you to align the rear tire to the front tire. When I did that it took most of the wobble out of the front tire and cut down on the noise. The method is described somewhere on this site. I'm going to get the wheel aligned as well as possible and use an electric engraver to put new marks on the index for future use. The factory ones suck!

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

It's better, but the wobble is still there. I have taller pullback risers and short drag bars. Maybe thats the reason I can feel the wobble.

Hi Jan,

If I may ask, what were your reference points?

Enjoy the belt drive. I won't run a chain again after installing the QPD system. Shifts smoother, runs smoother and is noise free. Idling along at 5mph in traffic is a breeze with the belt. Worth the money for sure.

there is a laser chain alignment tool made by Profi, available at www.ausit.com.au this is an Australian site but you should be able to get it in the U.S.A.
Happy riding.
Tony.
