my left side exhaust pipe is starting to yellow (first stage of blueing). It is a new bike with about 200 miles. Has anyone had this happen to them with this amount of miles. if so could you advise me of my problem. thanks

get the air injection removal kit, it's supposed to slow the blueing down.

You have to get the carbs set up correctly in conjunction with removing the AI. These bikes come lean from the factory to get through emissions and that will help cause them to blue as well. So do some adjusting and remove the AI.

My bike is running too well to fool around with he factory set up. Its only 6 months old (2008) and I would be sick if I screwed up the way it ran. Blue is cool anyway.I am not touching the plumbing at least till its out of warranty.

Dude your bike is NOT running well if you still have the factory set up! Unless your dealer is super spectacular and re-tunes every bike as part of the dealer prep, then you are running LEAN...which can feel like it's running well...BUT it's not!...

In order to get a normally aspirated motor to meet the EPA regulations for import...two things have to happen...

1. Air injection which pumps fresh air into the exhaust gas...effectively "watering" the exhaust gasses down.

2. Set it up to be LEAN...this ALSO reduces emissions by reducing the amount of gas burned...

Presto your bike NOW passes the EPA regulations....

Presto the increased exhaust gas temps turn your pipes blue...

PRESTO your bike NOW burns valves out costing $$$...
Don't think so....????

Pull one of your spark plugs...bet it's all chalky white...

But it's your ride do what you will...Just hope those valves go south while it's still under warranty...

Or you could listen to the advise given in response to the question.

You guys make alot of sense. I like the look of the origional pipes. Perhps gutting them is a good idea.

Most dealerships will remove the AI and still give you warranty. Doing it yourself shouldn't change that.

If one side is turning colour before the other, the carbs might be out of balance. Adjusting them should get the pipe temps close to the same.

Mine were both blue when i picked my bike up 2 years ago. Removed the AI, buffed out the bluing and it hasn't returned to date.

I gutted my pipes and love the sound. When doing that on your pipes be careful not to damage the catalyst as it's soft. You can find cheap stock pipes to gut or message Chevy605 or look for his auctions on Ebay, he guts them and sells them for a reasonable price and does a good job. I bought a set for Wendy's bike back when I didn't know what was inside them but ended up removing the last baffle he left in. Then ended up gutting another set for my bike (among others for other people) if you do that do not remove the reducer cone, you need that for back pressure so you don't lose bottom end torque. If you do that you should open up the intake and rejet too.
