I need to know if when you remove the primary, rocker, timing covers,if there are any surprize parts that come off with them or is it just a matter of replacing the gaskets?I`m most conserned with the rocker and timing covers.Anyone who has removed these covers please give me a heads up if there is anything i should know before doing it.Thanks for any advise!

My question is why are you removing them?

Here is a condensed version of the links Phil listed:

Rocker Cover. If you mean the Cam Cover, no parts to watch out for. Ensure the metal sides of the four washers are up when reinstalling. Displace the wiring harness to the left of the top tube. Remove the cover from the right side of the bike.

Timing Cover aka Right Engine Cover. NO. But be aware of the two wires that seal on the edge of the cover. You will need to reseal these with a sealant.

Primary Cover aka Left Engine Cover. YES. The wave washer on the starter shaft will drop out. The starter shaft itself may drop out. (Just ask Ryan!) Check for flaked chrome and rectify if any is found on the inside of the cover. You'll have to drop (not remove) the front peg bar and will have to remove the left silencer (in addition to the obvious stuff). Have some black high temp RTV sealant handy when reinstalling the silencer. AND put the silencer's clamp back in the same orientation it was in before you removed it. If you don't the side stand will not fully retract.

NOTES: Get a bolt set from Brent, err newspeedmaster.com for the RH and LH engine covers so you can install these while the silencer is off and the foot bar is displaced. Mike at bellacorse.com sells a bolt set as well, not as highly polished and you need to tell him you have a 270 motor as 4 of the bolts on the LH engine cover are 5mm longer than they are on the 360 motor.

PS: You also might think about installing the heavy duty clutch basket springs while the LH engine cover is off...

My advice to everyone is never remove this cover EVER unless there is a critical reason.

Ride Safe.

No. The aft section of the LH cover has the four long bolts. On the bonnevilles these are 70mm in length. The America and Speedy use 75mm length bolts. (M6x1x75mm). The other bolts are M6x1x?? somewhat less in length than 75mm...

The sprocket cover uses different length bolts depending on the sprocket cover used as well...
