TOR and removeable baffles?

Do the TOR pipes have removeable baffles? Has anyone removed them / or fiberglass packing material to "open up" the sound?
Just wondering.....

Bigsteve, they don't have removable baffles and the only way to change anything is to drill out the baffles. This has been done by alot of riders, but remember once you go there you can't go back.

My TOR's have no baffles at all. They are straight thru and LOUD. I'm thinking of putting in baffles. Has anyone done this?

I have removed the baffles and installed a set of aftermarket ones in my pipes. Or you can drill them out too. At least with the aftermarket ones in there I can play around with them a little bit more.

They aren't removable, but why mess with the TORs anyway? My short TORs sound just about right as they are out of the box and most everyone that hears the bike thinks it sounds pretty good as well. The thing I like about them is the performance boost, mellow sound and the fact that police haven't bothered me about them at all.

My short TOR's got louder over time. I don't understand why if they have baffles and not fiberglass. I would like to tone them down a bit. Any easy fixes?

Are you sure there is no baffles in there and not just lightly baffled? The set of TOR that I have are the first generation, the later generation ones have been baffled alot less each time. I think I remember that the latest ones are more free flowing, straight through design(you can pass a golf ball through them).

If in fact you don't have baffles in there you should be able to install a set of aftermarket ones in there.

There are no baffles in mine. You can see straight thru the pipe...and yes, a golf ball or ping pong ball would roll right thru. I'll look out for some baffles. I'll have to find the inside diameter and find some. Anyone know if I'll need to rejet?

The TOR do have baffles. Just because you can see straight through doesn't mean it's not a muffled pipe. The build in baffle/muffler is of a different design than perhaps what you are thinking of. Rest assured the TOR are baffled/muffeled to quite them down.

I drilled out the baffles from my long TOR's with an extended 1 and 3/4in. hole saw. It had three baffles about 3/4 to 1 in. in diameter. The front two were staggered and the back one was centered. each was about 8in. long and they had slots like a medium to fine chesse gratter. A 1/8 in. rod would not go through the slots.The bike had 1,300 miles and all the glass was already gone from the left side but the right side was packed heavy. The glass was a bi-ch to remove with a crooked wire and made a big mess. The stuff goes everywhere and sticks to everything. They are very loud and set off car alarms a block away. I have located two generic 1 3/4 in. baffles for $18 each. Cheap enough but I found something else I couldn't live without before I left the store and had to put the baffles back. I don't ride that bike very much but I will probably go with some short turn outs like discussed in this forum a few days ago. Probably more than you wanted to know but. Sincerely, Old 52
PS The TOR's are on my America and I have long slash cut Speciality Spares on my Speedmaster and they sound awsome, especially 3,000 to 4,000 RPM.

straight through short tapered tors on mine right now. these are much quieter that the long slash cut tors, which are straight through.

is there anyway to drill the tapered tors? i can't see how.

Yes, the baffles are removable - I used a hole saw

I like the new sound - not too loud but just right.
I've since read about the fibreglass wadding breaking down!
I'll have to address that problem if/when it arises.

Howdy guys. I got a newbie question. Pardon my ignorance, but I have searched high and low and still I have no idea what the Tor pipes are. Do they come with the re-jetting kit and all that? Whats the sound level like? Middle of the DB scale as far as pipes go? I was checking out the D&D reverse cones on the NewBonneville site and really like the sound, but, they will be too loud huh?

BTW, I am about 99% sure Ill be getting the America. From what I have gathered so far from reading all yalls posts is, upgrade the pipes and rejet, and upgrade the suspension.

TOR is Triumph Off Road pipes.

I had Bob at Palm Beach Triumph install short TORs before I picked it up and no rejet was needed. Most think these pipes are on the quiet side (I agree)) and either go with aftermarket pipes, drill holes in the baffles, or knock baffles plates out.

Too loud is relative to what you think, period. I have Epcos and they are loud, just not obnoxiously so.

If you upgrade your pipes and rejet, you need to modify the intake also. Uni filter would probably be a good starting point

The TOR's have gone through several changes. The first set of Long TOR's were fully baffled just like the stock pipes just with a shorter baffle. The second set I got are straight through Glass Packs or as the older Hot Rodders probably remember them as Cherry Bombs. They do get quite a bit louder with age. Not too loud but they bark pretty well when I give it a fist full of throttle.

Fist Full of Throttle... wasn't that a Clint Eastwood movie?
