Cleaner emissions, better performance but still looks the part. A good thing.

By 2010 you won't be able to buy a new motorcycle that isn't fuel injected. This has been dictated by the EPA. By 2012 the EPA has new noise limits for engines and exhaust, which will force most manufacturers to design engines with oil, and water coolers.
In 2006 the EPA banned the sale of tickler carburators in the US. So, if you have a late model Triumph (1980 and older), and need to replace your carbs, then you will have to go with one of the newer none tickler carbs that are available.

Banned them all together? That really sucks, I have a bunch of bikes that use that type of carb and have no choke on them. (either been removed or was useless or both). I have done plenty of restoration jobs where I bought new Amal ticklers for them. Most recent were a 68 BSA Lightning and a 73 850 Commando. Funny the carbs for the Commando were the same casting as a Triumph so I had to file the body a little so they wouldn't hit each other when installed.

Why can't the government just leave us TF alone? MCs contribute almost nothing compared to cars and trucks. This is what happens when people don't actually work for a living.

I agree. They should try and keep retro bikes authentic! Carbs, oil leaks, dodgy handling and a rebuild at monotonous frequency. If only they would listen to what we really want

Uh...what about an air box and fake air filter covers. Does that sound familiar?

Or the fake toolbox on early series. Does it matter?

So does that mean, If you are restoring an older model bike that has tickler carbs then you cannot restore it to its original state. Not that i have one, just interested in the answer.

If it is the same rules that apply to other motor industries (i.e. diesel engines), if you repair it and are going to be using it, it will need to be upfitted to current standards (if modern parts are compatible). But, if it falls into the classic/antique category, you can restore it to original specs.

The only question that I have is there any other issues in changing your exhaust other than changing the EFI chip? Don't own an EFI bike but heck who knows? it may happen.

When are they going to put emission controls on cows? They make more pollution than any motorcycle ever did.

I am proud to have the last carburated bike- 2008 TBA. I hate sensors and computer chips. A sensor in a Honda Accord cost me a transmission rebuild.I had a tech tell me and I think it is significant any bike shop can work on a carb not so with the FI system. They have been doing carbs for along time like my old style belt driven Maytag washer. It is good old technology.
2008 BA, Ageon Blue, roadster shield, light bar. tach, big bags, square engine guard, short sissy with rack. All Triumph parts. No mods.

That doesn't even make sense. The only way that it does is if the "fake carburetors" weren't actually functioning throttle bodies. Said throttle bodies can look like just about anything. Why not make them look like something?
