Hi there,

i'm about to have a go at removing these covers (on a TB Scrambler) today/tomorrow so i can send them off to be chromed .

i've no experience with tinkering with these areas and they look like they should just unbolt.

however, is there anything i should know before i start?

i.e. (the most important one)

1. when i take the cases off, will anything important fall out and break my other half's bike?

thanks for any and all advice you can offer

Anthony

Watch for the wave washer on the starter drive (small gear front lower corner) it falls off sometimes.

on the Haynes manual it tells me to drain the engine oil before removing the clutch cover.

can i get away without doing this or will the floor of my garage look a lot messier without draining it (is it basically full of oil?)

just trying to avoid any mistakes before i make em, in my end i thought it would be just a case of taking off the bolts and unscrewing them off.

Ant

Yep.. gonna have to drain the oil.. and it will still make a mess. You also have to deal with the clutch mechanism, loosen the cable enough to remove it from the transmission end on dis assembly. You'll also need another gasket for the cover and the seal for the clutch shaft and shift shaft. The clutch shaft is a tricky little critter so make sure it is reinstalled correctly and operational before completing the reassembly process.

Careful not to bend the breather tube (it runs from cover to the outside of the engine. Disconnect the outer rubber breather hose from where it comes out of the case prior to removing the cover). Other than that, Jump into it! I recommend picking up a Haynes manual (you won't need it for this but they come in handy).

Cheers for the advice guys, all covers off successfully - i'll write it up to throw in the tech vault (as i found the haynes instructions good, but not quite clear enough for a tech newbie like myself).

one problem i have currently is that the clutch case has a series of sleeves with barings in. One is right in the guts of the clutch case (when you take the panel off thats screwed onto the inside) and the other is where the clutch pedal would go through.

The chroming place say that it requires a specialist tool to remove them, any ideas? (i'm phoning Triumph as we speak).

to reiterate, it's basically a sleeve that goes in two holes in the clutch case - one behind the panel (in the centre) and one where the pedal would go through.

Any advice much appreciated,

Anthony
