One more thought, when’s the last time you saw a Harley Davidson model depicted in an image like the one below showing the rider at speed on a sweeping section of road instead of on a slow cruise? This is definitely aimed at a different segment of the market.

HD is releasing the XR1200 here in the US. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2008/11/24/harley-davidson-xr1200-released-in-us/ I like it!
Three words here: IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!
YEP! It's about time Willie G. and the boys realized that there ARE Americans who would buy an H-D that not only can handle some back-road fun, BUT that there are folks out there who know that H-Ds once meant more than just some "Bad-Boy Crusier Imagine" crap, and who would like to own a machine that harks back to those thrilling days of Flattrack yesteryear!!!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I think they'll sell out fast. There's a long thread about the XR at advriders.com if anyone is interested. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=408986It's a beautiful machine!

I read some of the comments further on down the article. The one about getting to the tranny made me cringe. But heck, what are the odds that a Harley, whose purpose is to throw it around and go fast, is gonna need any tranny work? I still remember when Harley tried to restyle it's image a little, with the European cafe sytled sporty in the late 70s. They didn't sell. I predict that they will sell them out to the collectors, and that will be the end of them.

Considering how well the WLR and XR750 did on dirt tracks in their time, it might very well haul ******. Come to think of it, the OL's 1200 Nightster is pretty quick and handles near as well as my America.

I predict poor sales due to unattractive styling. HD can probably dump 750 of 'em though.

I don't like the rear fender style either, looks like a mid 80's Kawasaki Ninja rear or something.... I don't think they will stay on the showroom floor though

I think the sales i europe has tapered off..too many good bikes to compete with,so now they "open sales"to the usa..hurry before they discontinue their collector models!!
life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

Rear fender is not much different than my 98 T-Bird was, alot of bikes kinda have that look now...
