I collected my new Speedmaster today. Thick fog, 0 deg C and roads covered in salt. Not a pleasant ride to the dealer to drop off my trusty T100, but coming home was much better....thick fog, 2 deg C and roads covered in salt and mud! So the new SM has 30 miles on the clock and has been washed already!

But those TORs sounds lurvely!

Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

you are correct Zdenko nothing wrong with a clean bike, weather is bad up here as well Martin. Just hoping it clears tomorrow for our weekly meet in the morning.

Congratulations on the new ride though Martin, look forward to seeing you at Dent

If that's its "welcome home" ride, then it's all easy street from there.

Congrats !!

So when will you take that 2 + hour ride just to go to the Fish & Chip shop? And I'm certain it will take you 3+ hours to find your way home again.

Hope the weather has cleared for your ride.

Ray, methinks Celt's being silly...

tell him there's no way you'd go 30 miles before washing yo' ride. :P

Welcome (again) Martin. It's obvious, but I'm going to ask anyway, why did you swap your Bonnie for a Speedie?
And did you ever sort your seat out?

I always liked the look of the Speedmaster, and was looking to buy one around the start of Spring. I test rode the America, Bonnie and Scrambler - all EFI models - at my local dealer, but unfortunately they didn't have a Speedy on demo. I didn't like the America at all and it put me off a little bit.

Talking to another dealer who I'd bought from before, he reckoned the EFI Speedmaster was way better than the carb model, even though he had a carb 865 secondhand at a good price. I couldn't afford the EFI model then, and my local bike shop (Suzuki dealer just round the corner) had a T100 in the showroom, so I bought it.

For what it is the T100 is ok, but there's too much chrome that needs polishing for me. It always felt like it was neither a cruiser nor a sportsbike riding position - too in between and was a bike I couldn't ride all day. It wasn't comfortable. One of the reasons behind buying it was to get the good lady out on the back of it, but that didn't happen.

I also have a 1250 Bandit for hooning around on and I still wanted the Speedmaster because of the way it looks.

So when the local dealer had their open day I went in to ask what the T100 was worth and I guess he wanted to sell bikes from the new shop, cos he offered me more than I could get for it privately. Total no-brainer - if I hung onto the T100 it would devalue, and the Speedmaster wouldn't be dropping in price.

I'm still not sure on the seat....I had intended to buy the solo seat with the bike, but being a tightwad I bought a brand new pair of America seats on Ebay for alot less. Now I have to make them fit (once they get here)! Looking at the bolts that have been suggested I'm wondering if the fitment has changed on the EFI bikes.......I'll have to take a photo and post it as I'm not going to describe it well here.

Neill which screen is that on your bike?

I'm surprised that you didn't like the America but (I assume) you like your Speedie; I didn't realise there was that much difference.

Erm, I'm not sure about the screen. I bought it off ebay as an official Triumph screen but there are no markings on it, nor can you adjust it, as (I believe) you can with the official flyscreens. I got it cheap enough and it looks like it belongs so I'm pleased, regardless. It gets a lot of comments and it also adds about 10mph to the comfortable cruising speed.

Regarding the seat, it's a straight swap from the Speedie seat to the America seat. You need to remove the post that the Speedie seat attaches to which means reaching up under the mudguard. It's easier on a lift. You should get a special bolt with the America seat which fastens the solo seat down and allows you to attach the pillion seat, or not. I don't bother with it (the pegs went a long time ago) and used the original bolt in the rear mounting point. I've covered this with a rubber grommet. You don't need those special quick-release thumb-bolts that people have linked to. I have one but I'm too paranoid to use it; I have visions of parking up and returning to find a seatless bike.

I didn't get on with them big wide bars. The Speedy bars pull me forward more and into the bike. On the America I just slouched and found it uncomfortable.

My in-laws live in Norris Green - I feel that way every time I park the car there!

Sorry - I've been looking on here, but sitting at the puter too long hurts, so haven't replied...

I thought that you'd been talking to Ray too.....he's a bit of a clean freak and would be prone to clean his bike after every ride....

I love my Americas. I love the slouchiness of it, as I don't rush anywhere and the slouching tends to mean I don't rush on the bike....I don't have any speeding tickets, and want to keep it that way!
I have ridden a Speedy - and at length. I hired one in Australia last year, and I think I did around 2500 miles . I dunno. There was a sign at the end of my sis' street that said Brisbane 1500ish km. I rode there and back and some riding around while up there. Anyway. That had a king and queen seat on and that was quite comfy, but I prefer my stock America seat. Really. I like it. I have a spare that I keep threatening to doctor, and never got around to it. Now my back has gone again, I might actually do it... The bars......I prefer the longer ones. And I'm feel comfy sat on the bike...just walking around hurts at the mo... Oh and as for the bumps in the road...they are the main reason I'm not riding. And the fact my tablets make me sleepy.

And I have a 'quick release' bolt on the 06 - holding the rack on. It's not a garaged bike and it's left in the public car park at work. I've never had a problem with it.

And WELCOME! Where in the UK are you?

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Only taken 2 weeks to come up with a reply... And I've done 5000 miles this year - and 4 months I wasn't allowed to ride.

I'm just outside Bedford too. So you going to join us for the ride up to Dent next year? Should be a nice little group riding up together from our area.

Sorry to hijack the thread
