Hi Guys
Can anyone tell me if it is difficult to renew the pick up coil. any instructions would be good if it is not to hard a job and you dont need special tools.
also do you need to buy the pick up coil from triumph or are there alternative brands you can use.
Many thanks for any help guys.

Oh, I think you'll have to buy the Triumph part. PM sent on the procedure.

Pardon my asking, but why do you want to change it?

It's very easy to replace a coil. Are you sure it is the problem? If one cylinder is cutting out, try swapping the left and right coils (interchangeable). If the cutting out swaps to the other side, you know it was the coil. If not, it's more likely the igniter or plug wiring.

Herb,

Can you give us any other symptoms? If it is cutting out, how? Does the unit just quit? At what engine speed? Does it sputter first? Run on one cyl for a while? Backfire?

Maybe you do have a pickup coil problem. Giving us the symptoms helps us all learn a little more. Keep us posted.

Well the pick up coil is now fitted and she is running like a dream. Woo Hoo
who would think a little thing like that would cause so much trouble.

Oddly enough, I think mine might be doing the same thing - just cuts out at odd times, sometimes very frequently, other times it'll run for hours without a problem. I have one or two things to chase down on it before I go buying another coil. BTW Herb, what'd yours cost you?

If only one side is cutting out, I would strongly suggest swapping the coils or the leads and see if the problem moves to the other side. If it does, you know the coil is the problem. If it stays on the same side, it's most likely the igniter.
