Has anybody used rain X anti-fog on thier helmet? on the box it says that it should not be used on some plastics unless preapproved by the manufacturer. Well I have a shoei and have not gotten a responce from them and thought i would through it out there. I checked the archives and did not find anything specific to this.

From trying it on plastics, Rain-X will cause the plastic to 'fog'. Avoid it on faceshields, sunglass lenses, etc. I would only use on glass.

I would love to find a product like Rain-x that did not damage plastic...

I got some stuff at EMS called "cat crap". More of a cleaner, but it's supposed to help with fog too for sunglasses and now face shields. It comes in a little red round thing almost like lip balm. Check it out.

Hiya Sebastian
During my bike lessons, the guy used furniture polish!!

He sprayed it on a cloth and wiped the visor.
He had used it for ages with no probs!

Has the same effect and the Mrs might even think you're helping out round the house if she sees it in your mitt!!!

Thanks guys,
I will keep my eye out for the stuff in the red bottle and try the furniture stuff. I really want to use the rain-x but am too big of a chicken. I am sure it would be fine but just my luck it would ruin it and then I have no mask in this cold weather.
Thanks all
Sebastian

I must be a moron - don't answer that!!!

I know you asked about Rain X but another anti-fog doodad is the Fog City visor sticker thingy ....

http://www.modernworld.com/

I have one on my full face and it works a dream.
Almost the work of the devil ...

I didn't mention it before because your thread mentioned Rain X (external) and the Fog City is internal.

It sticks to the inside of the visor and forms a little 'double glazed unit'. No misting!!

It's a little fiddly but well worth persuing because they really work.

Differnet shapes for different lids (I doubt if you can cut 'em because they have adhesive all round the edge - cut 'em and you'll take the adhesive off).

Only problem is if you wear glasses, they steam up but the visor doesn't ..

I need mini Fog City's for my glasses .............

Just a update, I wrote to shoei and told them I wanted to use the anti-fog by rain x and they said it was a bad idea. Instead they said that I should use the stuff they use and that they would make this easy by sending me it free of cost. So I sent them my address and two days later I got the stuff, will put it on tonight and let you know how it works. By the way they never asked for any info about my purchase of a shoei so I guess if you are that kind of guy (or gal) you could just say you had one to get the stuff. It isnt like they give you a ton and I am not sure how long it will last but it was free.

Nice that they sent you the stuff gratis. After all, their lids go upwards from 4 bills! So a buck item is in their interest especially after the implied razing they got from the Motorcyclist rag several months ago.

ME? I keep the face shield up one notch on my HJC. Spit works too, but we'll leave it to yota to explain that one.

I use a product called Zooke anti-fog glass cleaner. I found it at a motorcycle show. Works great on rainy cold days. A little expensive.

Will definitely try the furniture polish thing. I have only been riding since August this year. Ever since the weather turned colder here, have had the problem of fogging of the faceshield on my full face helmet. Thought maybe the fact that I am bald contributed to the problem, with more than normal heat escaping through my noggin (ha ha). I tried a liquid solution (I got from my optometrist) that is an eyeglass cleaner and prevents fogging, but didn't do a thing for the helmet faceshield. So for now I'm popping up the shield at stoplights and then closing it again when I get moving.

Adey,

As a fellow moron, I would like to ask what furniture polish was used.... Years ago, a friend of mine used to use Lemon Pledge on the inside of his car windshield and said it helped prevent fogging. I rode to work this afternoon - 48F and slight drizzle = slight fogging. I rode home at midnight - 36F and continual drizzle/rain and the fogging would not go away.... so I'm ready to try anything.

What was it? Olde English? Pledge? Endust? Formby's? Venezuelan Beaver Extract?....

I bought a breath box for my HJC CL14 helmet. Cost 15 dollars, snaps into the two vents in the front and velcros to the inside of the helmet. So far it has worked great! Looks pretty cool too.

There were a couple of merchandisers at the IMS that had a product line called Zook, which consisted of various cleaners with anti-fog properties. One item, which he cleaned my eyeglasses with, was in a small lip-balm like tub, but all of these products were blue. Had a larger bottle for spray-on for use on shields. Wanted $20+ for the lot of the stuff, or ONLY $12 for the lip-balm tub.

I figured I could buy a lot of Windex (or whatever) for $12. Did a good job on my specs, though...

Furniture polish (lemon pledge)didn't do the trick for me. So far, just cracking the face shield open a little works kind of ok.

Good ole' spit rubbed in and gently rinsed will also help on the fog situation.
