man, I hate to be the one to break the bad news, Triumph decided that they will not produce that bike and instead are making another sport-style race bike. I'm bummed out, I was looking forward to it after all the rumors....

Mike, Thunderbird is really not recognized or discussed here for now. Most got sick of hearing about it and not seeing it in person. Try searching "Thunderbird" on this forum and you can read a few thousand posts over the last couple of years.

WHAT???????????????????? If that's true, I think they're passing up a great opportunity to cash in. So many of us would love that bike with the 1600cc. Hope it's not so.

No, no, no! These are candid shots of the new big-bore Daytona. You know how manufaturers like to fool the press by testing their engines in a different chassis, or add dodgy-looking bodywork...

Well Rich, if Kevin was bein' sarcastic, then he's usin' the wrong little dude to punctuate that sarcasm here. Nope, instead of usin' the "cheers" little dude, he should'a used THIS guy here-> , or EVEN this guy HERE-> , but NOT this little guy here-> .

(I mean, take it from a guy noted for bein' "slightly" sarcastic around here, dude!)
Oh, and yeah...once again, in their "infinite wisdom", the boys from Hinckley aren't showin' their wares at the CW Int'l M/C Shows again this year.
(but what say we don't start THAT little debate all over again here, okay folks?!)

OH! And one more suggestion here regarding the CW shows, folks.... When you go, DO NOT WEAR ANY apparel which may have proudly emblazened upon them the words, "Triumph", or "Triumph Motorcycles", or "Triumph Bonneville", or that shirt with that little leaping cartoon tiger on it that says "Triumph", or...well...I "think" you get what I'm talkin' about here, RIGHT?! Because, if you DO, you're sure to get, AT the very LEAST, TWENTY FOLKS who'll walk up to you and ask you the following question..."Hey buddy, where's the Triumph stand?", and then YOU will have to explain to each and every one of 'em that there IS NO Triumph stand here at the CW show, to which YOU will THEN have to hear them complain about said fact for a minimum of at least 20 seconds! (and 20 X 20 seconds is 400 seconds, which is 6 minutes and 40 seconds out of your time looking at all of the OTHER cool friggin' machines that'll be at the show)

Nah, I was being sarcastic. I just like the beer-drinking cheers guy.
I'll never understand Triumph's position on ducking the IMS. Every other major manufacturer is there, and a few moinor ones too. There's no excuse for Triumph to stay home.

if they charge 10 to 15 thousand just for a booth .. I can only wonder what they charge a manufacturer for floor space to set up all the bikes they make
and if you sell all the bikes you make"Like Triumph Does" why spend all that cash on shows????to tell folks about your bikes???
so why not spend that cash on R&D "Like Triumph Does"
I say smart company

Um... everybody sells all the bikes they make. Do you think Honda is throwing out their bikes at the end of the year? I'll go hang around the Suzuki dumpster and see what turns up.
The argument was that Triumph is using its marketing money on the demo trucks. That's a weak argument since most bike makers have demo trucks or offer demo rides at some of the national bike events.
Besides, Triumph shows up at some of the Euro bike events. Why not in the US?
Heck, even Hyosung is at the IMS!
And now Triumph is ready to debut the long-awaited 20XX Mystery Bike, aka The Thunderbird. You'd think they would be proud to show this bike off across America, but no. Makes me wonder...

No they don't. It's the local national dealers with support from Triumph, for the most part.

Hmmmm.
In that case Thanassis, I can only come to the conclusion that the european dealers must have a heck of a lot more pull with the boys at Hinckley than do their american counterparts. And I say that because if I'm not mistaken the new Thunderbird was premiered at that Milan Italy show which allowed your friend to take some pictures of this new machine, and it hasn't even hit the market yet, either over there, OR here.
(and so, EITHER you europeans must, as I said, have more pull and a more direct "pipeline" to those boys in Hinckley, OR America's international standing in the world is EVEN WORSE than I thought it was, and has NOW even affected the wide world of motorcycles TOO!!!)

Honda does not sell all the bikes-nor have any of the Jap manufs. There are PLENTY of one year old bikes and enough two year old brand new bikes in the pipeline. The stats are avail. online and in print if you take the time to search. Triumph had it's best year EVER last year at 48,000 sold. Honda made 13 million bikes last year.

I wonder when Triumph says "go your own way" just where they want you to go? It sure ain't to the IMS.
It's no secret that the Thunderbird was a major disappointment style-wise for me, as well as many of the Triumph faithful based on reactions here & elsewhere. Triumph hit a home run with the styling of the orignal Speedmasters & Americas. Time will tell how the TBird is received. I wish them well with it, but the bike just plain doesn't appeal to me.

Yes, from what we could see the bike was a major disappointment to you long before the first picture of it was ever revealed. I'll never figure out how you managed that.
You dislike this ...

And yet you like this ...

If they eventually come out with a "Touring" version without the bobbed fender, straight exhausts, and hard bags - I'll take a much closer look. Right now I couldn't be happier with my bike. If I give the classic looks up for something more generic, I'd probably want a tourer.

The TBird has been most disappointing in the length of time it has taken Triumph to come out with a cruiser in the 1500 cc range.
And it's STILL not available!

Hmmmm...I wonder if this a good time to mention that that otherwise fine lookin' machine that'll be hittin' the market next year needs...ummm....a little more pronounced finning around its cylinder barrels, so it'll look at least a little like it's "air-cooled", just like Windrat here mentioned above he especially liked about it???

You have had a prophetically negative approach to the bike from the time I even announced the bike's name, back in February (and even before - you also use EVERY opportunity you can to diss the bike, both on this and other websites). Quote 1: A little sarcasm from December 07: "Sure, keep waiting for the Triumph 1500 mystery bike. It'll be here ANY day now. " Quote 2 "Uh... this bike isn't putting out ANY horsepower yet. But i did hear it'll be available in Goodwood Green" Quote 3 "If it's a 1620 maybe it'll be called a Mayflower." That was back in February when I announced the name, i.e. BEFORE. Thunderbird name announcement thread Quote 4 Sorry, but "heritage" goes out the window when you start building your so-called "English" bikes in Thailand. Indeed, I traded in "heritage" on improved power, handling, styling and reliability. And oh yeah, Made in the USA. But hey, maybe someday the 20XX 1500/1600/1700 Triumph Mystery Cruiser will fill the void in the Triumph lineup between the 865cc and 2.3L bikes. I wish youse guys well. Slainte. From June Quote 5 "For those of you in Australia & New Zealand who can't wait for the 20XX Triumph Mystery Cruiser... CLICK VICTORY(link)" Again from June and others ... See anything positive here? Also, promoting Victorys ???? So, by the time the bike was finally revealed, we already knew exactly what you would say about it e.g. I don't like the radiator ... it doesn't float my boat etc. etc. Very predictable. And all the rest of the malakies we keep getting from you.
Bedouin.

Its a nice looking bike. It looks Japanese more so than a bike with a great heritage like Triumph. I dont understand why a manufacturer with a grand mark and heritage like Triumph would discard it.
Funny how those who like it bristle when others decry its un-Triumph look.
