There was a mysterious silver like substance on the exhaust directly below the house that comes out of the radiator... that house also has an oily substance on it. any ideas? the silver like substance was easy to rub off.
i am a complete and total half-wit when it comes to anything mechanical... however, i have a good mechanic. is there anything that i should suggest to him?

The radiator What kind of bike do you have? Or do you mean the oil cooler?

I don't know about the silver substance, but since it's oily on the hose, you have a leak somewhere. Either the banjo fitting washer, or perhaps the hose has deteriorated inside the stainless steel cover which could explain the other substance.

tough fix? will it be possible for a general motorcycle guy to fix it? or will it have to go to a triumph guy... there are no triumph shops anywhere nearby

Your favorite local wrench should be able to handle it with no sweat.

Anyone worked on that part of the bike lately? Had the exhaust off? Silver stuff could be anti-sieze. Those hoses need to be lined up and tightened carefully or they'll spew a fine mist of oil out. Could also be leaking elsewhere - cam cover, center tube.
I'd wipe it all down and run and check again.
